Delta Empire is best drummer on YouTube. IMO
Delta is awesome and very consistent but doesn't have anywhere near Siberianos ability.

Although I can’t help but feel like he has def heard this song before. I mean hasn’t everybody who ever listened to rock?
Going into the video I was thinking “bullshite, no way he hasn’t heard it.” After watching the video, I think it’s genuine. You can tell he doesn’t know where it’s going in the bridge. First he goes to his ride during the heavy part of the bridge, which really doesn’t fit the rest of the track right there because it’s loud/heavy at that point. Then a second or two after Leto starts screaming “this is who I really am” you can tell he realizes that part should be heavy so he starts doubling up on the snare and hitting his crashes.
But the real tell is the part right after that - he starts to play steady on a crash like he thinks it’s about to be really heavy, when in reality it’s a low-key breakdown. He realizes after a second and switches back to the ride, then realizes a second later that the ride is still too much and goes to the toms (which fits the track).
I 100% believe that he was playing along without knowing the song.
FWIW, figuring out how modern rock songs are “supposed” to sound on drums is probably not as hard as the average non-musician would think. Especially songs in 3/4 time like “The Kill” - there are only a handful of beats that would work in the first place. On top of that you can sort of feel the pocket as the original bass track is going to largely follow the kick/snare.
None of that should be taken as a slight against Chad Smith. It’s still really fricking cool, and he’s a great drummer.

Been watching this channel all night. Better than regular TV and I don't have single musical bone in my body

quote:I'm a huge RHCP fan. Saw them in Vegas last year. Interesting story about Chad Smith. When the oringinal drummer left the band, after the original lead guitarist died, Flea and Anthony Keidis held auditions. Someone told them about a guy that "eats drums". That was Chad Smith. They auditioned a bunch of lead guitarist until an 18 y/o, huge fan of theirs, came in. New every song they ever had done, by heart. That was John Fruchiante. Weird how things work out. Led Zeppelin in the only band that rivals the sheer amount of overall musical talent.
I watched this one the other day, he was the first one I've seen where he just starts winging it mid-listen, all the others I've seen listen to most of the track and form a plan. Chad goes for it and nails it pretty well.

Without a doubt, they get some hate because of Anthony, but Flea, Fruciante, and Chad almost seem like they could be a supergroup. All 3 extremely talented. FWIW I love RHCP, stayed consistent for years and still putting out really good music and live shows.

I’ve always said Anthony Keidis was the least talented member of RHCP.

Of course it’s hard to quantify “talent” when it comes to the songwriting/creativity aspect, especially since it’s tough to tell who is contributing what from the outside looking in. But those 3 guys are phenomenal technical musicians.

Holy shite

How do people find out about these things like this these days? I'm getting fricking old, I don't know anything new music unless it gets repeatedly blasted on radio and everyone is talking about it

I checked it out. He's a very skilled drummer. His playing adds nothing to the song.

Anthony is more of a "frontman" than a lead singer. He's not even the best singer in the band
But he does his job extremely well and the band wouldn't be the same without him. His crazy lyrics and sometimes bad singing grow on you.

quote:Couldn't agree more. His greatest thing he brings is the leadership aspect. It's almost like a mediocre football player going on to be a super coach. RHCP, even with the classic lineup, would probably be unknown today without Keidis.

I’ve heard John Frusciante explain before that Anthony has no musical training, but he has natural music ability and an ear for melody and flow. And because he’s not a trained musician, John said he takes songs to places that the rest of the band never even would have thought of - but in a good way. It’s beneficial to have a raw perspective that isn’t boxed in by the confines of traditional music training to compliment the perspective of the rest of the band who understand music theory.
So no, Anthony is not a trained musician, but I honestly don’t think RHCP would put out music nearly as good without Anthony.

Based on the number of downvotes you have, I’d say you are the only person who thinks that.

Man that led me down a rabbit hole last night…
Of the videos posted the CS one is the most impressive as he just listened to a few seconds of the track without the drums and just dove right in…first take damn near nailed it. Also the overhead shots were awesome. Having messed around with drums as a kid it’s amazing to watch a professional and I’ll never understand how they can operate with both hands and feet working different beats that fast and precise independently. Then you take a guy like Grohl that can sing while doing it.
Their brains are just wired differently.
