The Butthole Surfers chapter in Our Band Could Be Your Life is perhaps the funniest thing I have ever read. Some people talk the talk, but Gibby Haynes were certifiably insane in a band filled with whacked out weirdos.
it's a shame most people only know them for Pepper, but that's sort of the same fate that befell the Meat Puppets, who got one radio hit long after their their artistic peak. But Locust Abortion Technician and Hairway to Steven were so so great, and totally out of left field. They are still revolutionary, 30 years later.

I was at that show as well. Saw many good punk bands at Jacy's.

Bump.
The Shame of Life just came up on my Spotify.
Independent Worm Saloon was huge when I was in high school. Off to give it a revisit.
What are some of your favorite BHS songs?

Very nice link. "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" is one of my favorite 90's tracks. Just so bizarre and asskicking at the same time.

I always liked this one:
There's a time for drugs and a time to be sane
Jimi hendrix makes love to marilyn's remains!
There's a time to live and a time to die
I smoke elvis presley's toenails when I wanna get high!
There's a time to frick and a time to crave
But the shah sleeps in lee harvey's grave!
Saw BS on the Widowmaker tour. They projected a gender reassignment surgery video onto the stage while they played. Brilliant art and repugnant at the same time.

I've got this book and went back and reread their chapter last night. Yeah, they were completely bananas.
"Gibby filled up a plastic whiffleball bat full of urine- he managed to pee in the little hole in the end of the bat," says Leary, "and made this 'piss wand.'" Haynes then began swinging the bat, spraying urine all over the crowd. But it didn't stop there- Lynch, now completely naked, lay down on the stage and Haynes, in Leary's words, starting "mounting" her. Later Leary saw video footage of the scene. "Her legs are up in the air and there's Gibby pumping butt in the strobe lights and the smoke," says Leary chuckling. "It's really frickin' hideous man."

Jingle of a dog's collar would be good right now.

Lead singer of BHS (Gibby) did the vocals to "Jesus Built My Hot Rod" by Ministry. I think most people have always assumed that it was simply Al Jourgenson being Al. I have to say that because I was one of them...until I did further research.
Was about to post the same thing.

Very weird name yes but I think they're a very solid band.

idk I have tried to get into Butthole Surfers other stuff, and haven't been able to, but I LOVE Pepper. One of my favorite 90s songs.
on the other hand, I love several Meat Puppets albums in their entireties.
