"Pepper" was every bit of a hit as "Where It's At" by Beck and "Counting Blue Cars" by Dishwalla and "Stupid Girl" by Garbage. That song played on pop rock stations more than it did on college radio. Those were summer of '96 big time tracks. Funny...that was the end of the whole "indie/alternative" wave.
"Who was in My Room" was a semi-hit. But yeah, other than those 2, that was it.
I always thought that Monster Magnet and Butthole surfers were the same damn band.

This is what people who live around Deep Ellum usually say.
Well, I did go to Deep Ellum regularly during high school and college. You could get X tabs at the bars legally with your drink before they were outlawed.

Funny how I didn't know that you were from Dallas though...I just know Dallas when I see it.
All good...BHS, The Toadies, and Sunny Day Real Estate were all big big time out of that area if I recall. An d Deep Ellum was always a bonus due to the kick arse sushi. Even in the late 90's.

Oh wait. I got them mixed up with the psychedelic furs

They were very popular in the mid Eighties. More underground music.
How can a band be very popular and underground?
They had a semi-hit in the mid-'90s.
Back in the 80's in every issue of Hit Parader, Metal Edge, and Circus magazine they'd have a double page where you could order tee-shirts from your favorite bands. They always had one Butthole Surfers shirt down on the bottom of the left hand page.
(It's scary some of the random shite i can remember from 30+ years ago but cannot remember what I had for lunch two days ago.)

I'm from Shreveport but we would drive over there all of the time in high school and college. It was a great little area.

Paul Leary is my aunt's brother. Only met him a couple times. Strange guy.

Sunny Day Real Estate was Seattle.

How I coveted those t-shirts and iron-on patches. I would peruse those mags during middle school and circle the ones I planned on buying.
Of course, I'd only wind up buying band shirts from Spencer's and Record Bar like everyone else.

Thank you for typing the words Monster Magnet
I just went and watched the video for negasonic teenage warhead. A song I have not heard in maybe 20 years

Remember the Chris Farley Show? It was cool

One of my all time favorite bands. One of my biggest regrets is not getting to see them live back in the 80s when they were truly insane.
Too bad their last album got buried in the insanity around 9/11. It's fricking awesome.

They were so great back in the 80s. I was at the Jacy's show back in '85 or so when the cops showed up and shut them down.
I had never even heard them before and unwittingly found the greatest thing ever. Cops were harassing people outside and in the confusion I snuck in without paying. I don't know what took the police so long to shut the show down but they kept playing for at least an hour after they got there. They sounded unfrickingreal.
The cops cut the power and they kept on playing without amps, Gibby singing through a bullhorn in his old nasty tighty whities. The cops eventually had to grab him in a headlock and drag him off the stage.
