And Common's verse might actually be the best rap verse I've ever heard. Every single line has multiple layers of meanings. It's one of those things where I would hear the song like five years after I'd already listened to it a thousand times and I would figure something else out about a line in Common's verse..

ETA: a prerequisite of understanding any of it is knowing that the word "her" is an acronym for "hearing every rhyme".

Toad the Wet Sprocket - Walk on the Ocean

Don't want to mess up the rhythm of the thread, but after listening to this one again this evening I'm thinking 8.5 instead of 7. Still don't understand that chorus though.

I listened to it after a stressful experience with a rude person and found it to be very soothing.

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but it does have a soothing, melodic sway. I'll take a stab at the chorus question... since you're clearly scratching your head over it.

walk on the ocean (movement over something fluid)
step on the stones (movement on something solid)
flesh becomes water (something solid evolves into a non-solid state)
wood becomes bone (something solid that is rooted (tree) evolves into something that can move (perhaps to do the walking over water and stone))

Interpretation: everything is in flux; nothing remains static; everything is in some form of motion. It's like a taoist meditation in song form (think yin/yang) where things that have one quality in nature continue to flow towards opposite qualities.

I could be wrong, of course, but that's my $0.02.

If we were rating on the amount of murder, cop killing, and suicide bombing content in one song 10-10.

The meter is inconsistent at times but relatively good flow overall. Honestly it's better than the shite that gets put out now but it's not my bag. 7-10 for what it is.

Whoa, Nada Surf! I genuinely had no idea they were still around. Sounds like they are staying true to that alt rock style. That's awesome. Enjoyed the song very much, thanks for posting. 8/10

I prefer the earlier/prog side of DT.
Images and Words + Falling Into Infinity especially.

10/10 I actually contemplated posting this song earlier. It features one of A3K's most emotional verses.
