This guy is kind of under the radar - you ever listen to Ted Leo & the Pharmacists?
Brutalist Bricks is a very good album with punk influence & a poppy vibe to some of the songs.

Interesting take, but I think you’re wrong.

It's like you're trying to be Ken M. and are failing at it badly.

How is Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated NOT pop/punk? If you asked 100 pop punk fans if it was, literally all 100 would agree because it’s one of the seminal power ballads of the genre.

I’m gonna need monsterballads to explain this one.

chris carabba is not pop punk. DC is a emo rock outfit. literally nothing pop punk about him.

bayside is the best pop punk band currently making music in 2021 and it's not even close

because DC doesn't have a single characteristic of pop punk in his entire discography. have you even heard his music before? he would certainly tell you he doesn't make pop punk music.

I mean, does Vindicated not sound very similar to Only One by Yellowcard? There’s no denying Only One is pop punk. I get that DC’s catelog isn’t by and large pop punk, heck some of it is basically country music, but that one song has all the signs:

Whiney, nasaly vocals
Simple guitar bar chords
Overdriven guitars that aren’t too heavy

They even list Green Day as one of their biggest influences! To argue that Vindicated isn’t pop punk is just being overly contrarian for the point of being contrarian.

And yes, pop punk has power ballads, though they’re not 80’s power ballads like “Faithfully” by Journey.
Stay Together for the Kids - Blink 182

Wake Me Up When September Ends - Greenday

Pieces - Sum 41

The Reason - Hoobastank

Empty Apartment - Yellowcard

all meet that description.

I’m just telling you that dashboard confessional isn’t classified or thought of as a pop punk band. Vindicated itself sounds like a dishwalla or Coldplay song with a tinge more overdrive in the chain.

And “bar” chords? You can’t be serious

Dashboard would be classified as alternative rock, pop rock, acoustic rock, or emo rock.

They/he aren’t pop punk in any way.

The best pop punk (or punk with pop tendencies) record in recent memory is Chubby & The Gang - Speed Kills...

Probably my favorite overall record of 2020

example: All Along the Uxbridge Road

It’s the vocals that make it sound more like pop punk than Coldplay. It’s definitely emo too, but there’s a lot of crossover between the two

Been on Chubby and the Gang for a year or so. Listened to it tonight while cleaning up after dinner. Really great punk.

Not pop punk but some other stuff:
Bully
Charley Bliss
The Beths (first album)

Before I tell you that you don’t know what you’re talking about, please give me some other examples of pop punk.
