I dont dislike PC, but you could make an argument he was the weak link in Genesis. To his credit he said he was embarrassed by some of his solo stuff. Seems like a good guy, very humble.

love him, really top drummer and has a wealth of songs
side note--- he has one of the largest private collection of artifacts connected to the Alamo. He even did a book on his collection.

I've been jamming Selling England by the Pound a good bit lately, and I love his drumming on that album. Next level stuff.

One of the best. I love so many of his songs from Genesis and his solo career.
"Just a Job I do" might be my favorite. Just a cool story of a hit mans thought process.

Some Genesis is good.
I would rather have teeth and nails pulled then listen to his solo work.

He is really underrated as a drummer. As a singer and songwriter, not so much. I think the hate is a little over the top for him, but he didn't miss out on any success he earned.
I honestly enjoy a lot of his music, solo and post-Gabriel Genesis, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure, whereas I hold Gabriel's work in much higher regard. The two eras of Genesis couldn't be much more different.
People want to compare it to Rush, but the synths are where that comparison ends. Rush didn't start producing 3-4 minute pop tunes.

There are plenty of fine, fine drummers out there that don't have the songwriting, singing or creative skills of Collins. Yeah, a lot of it is pure popcorn/bubblegum, but there is a place for that kind of thing.
He also has a distinct drumming style that is distinguishable in things like Robert Plant's - "The Principle of Moments" and Howard Jones "No One is to Blame" (which Collins also co-produced).
He is underrated as a producer and collaborating drummer - he plays the drums on things like Do they know it's Christmas (Band Aid) and worked on shite tons of sessions and soundtracks.

I get fricking annoyed at how much "In the Air Tonight" gets played. I pretty much hate that song now.

He contracted the same curse that befell the Bee Gees. Strong early career followed by insane popularity followed by wearing out your welcome to the point of becoming a punchline.

Sarcasm just doesn't work on the internet. Even when I go completely over the top with it there are a crazy number of people that agree with me. And a smaller number that are completely appalled.
But I wish I could build a time machine just to go back to watch some Phil Collins videos on MTV! I miss that more than anything in life.

His daughter Lily played the daughter in The Blind Side. She was a guest on Fallon tonight. Still smokin' hot.
