Honestly think he's so freaking underrated as a musician. At first he was too artsy, too intellectual for my taste. But between genesis and his solo stuff, he's the GOAT. I know there was a period of backlash for him, but if you look at his influence on music and the catalog of songs that he's a part of, the guy is a legend. Really glad he's about to go on tour.

I recently picked up the Phil Collins 3 CD Anthology--Until I started playing it, I had forgotten just how many successful songs he had.

I also like some of the later Genesis albums, even though they are sometimes overshadowed by the early stuff. There are some good 10+ minute complex songs on them.

I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece.

I think you mean Genesis, specifically Peter Gabriel.

Collins was simply the drummer then.

I think he got ate up with a period of "old man mad" and "get off my lawn!"

Maybe had a hard time losing relevance? Just keep making a LITTLE new shite for your fans and playing your classic shite for same fans.

You start in bars and you may end in bars or HOB type venues. No shame in that.

I do know that he doesn't play drums much now as he has had numerous back surgeries and he claims it is painful to sit behind the kit.

With this crowd, it´s very hard to know what´s sarcasm, and what´s not. Very difficult.

I honestly could see that being a real, heartfelt comment. Truly.

You got me, however.

He peaked with Brand X and went downhill after that.

I frequently listen to "Serious Hits LIVE"

FYI - Collins is a huge collector of Alamo memorabilia and donated his 200+ piece collection (valued at $15M) to the Alamo Museum

great read ... Phil Collins Alamo collection

He can play any style of drums you want, underrated drummer by the general public but revered by musicians.

Maybe they didn't appreciate the poppy sound they incorporated as a trio and Collins was portrayed as the dominant creative force at that time. Idk seems like an overreaction, other esteemed prog acts were using "pop" elements in their material too like Yes and Rush in the 80s.
