Nickelback

I get that it's 'cool' to think the band Nickelback is 'un-cool', but can somebody help out a guy who doesn't pay attention to pop culture? Is there a specific reason why the hatred of Nickelback is so intense? Did I miss something? Did they write a tell-all book, or commit some unforgivable sin against a beloved music icon? Or is this just one of those old tired inside-jokes that some people take a little to seriously? Just curious, because it's been like two decades, and I don't think I've ever heard of Nickelback, except to hear someone making fun of them, including people on the radio, who are presumably the people responsible for the band's commercial success.

I had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn't 2005.

First, music board.
Second, the masses always look for something popular to hate on. Nickelback just made it easy for them.

Because they are cheesy and terrible

I owned and played the shite out of Nickelback's first two albums. Both were great.
The next one where they wrote Rockstar on the other hand...
I'll have the quesadilla, huh huh

They made the same song with different names 98 times.

Their music sucks arse. Do we need any other reason?

Nickelback has been replaced by Imagine Dragons as worst band ever. Try to keep up.

People just parroting what they read online, because they can't think for themselves. Kind of like the stupid nudes on reddit in every thread.

quote:Thanks - this is what I've always assumed (and I think the rest of the responses here confirm it), just always wondered if there was something more to the story I had missed, which is entirely possible - most of the time I can't even tell you which band is responsible for which song.
