Coming to jazz in a few weekends. Tons of shows all over town after JF but know nothing about NO.

Catching JRAD at Mardi Gras Ballroom. Not sure what else late night but there are options at the following. Let me know any to avoid:

Tipitinas
Blue Nile
Republic Nola
The Fillmore

Im assuming take ubers to any of these? staying off canal on the business district side?

Fillmore is in Harrah's and Republic is in the Warehouse district. You can walk to both if you're staying in the area.

May catch them Friday at Fillmore. Never seen them live but think I might like it.

JRAD is a new fav of mine, and his keyboard, Marco Benevento, is playing at Blue Nile late Friday so will prob catch both of those. I just dont know my way around town and the OT threads have scared me about gettin stabbed

Blue Nile is cool, but the Frenchman area has become a bit too touristy over the last few years. It's no longer the locals secret anymore. Still it's nowhere near as bad as Bourbon. We still go to this area sometimes, so this may be your best bet. You can find great local bands just about anywhere here, not just at Blue Nile.

Tips is in a location all by itself, so if you're looking to just go there and leave afterwards you'll be doing ok.

Republic is very trendy, but the location is cool in that there are other things around that area to do. If you walk in and think "oh shite everyone here is pretentious and all the rage," then you won't have any issues walking out and finding something better in the area. Howlin Wolf (which used to be where the Republic is now) is right down the street and is more authentic and less posh

I'm not too familiar with the Filmore.

Its jazzfest. Go to whatever artist you wanna see and dont worry about the venue. Some venues are better than others, but its all about the music. Take ubers everywhere, youll be plenty safe. Also, use this website Jazzfest grids

The Fillmore is in the casino. I have not been yet, but it is not a place I would seek out. If you're taking ubers to and from, you can go just about anywhere - I do. Just don't meander around drunk in a neighborhood you don't know.

I like a grittier venue for music, so Tip's and Maple Leaf are a couple of favorites.
