standup bass for sure... I thought i have seen him play another instrument before but I could be wrong.
I think replacements will be easy and they need time to get the sound right before the big ROO...
im pretty bummed bc of the whole weekend I had planned

A lot of bands have crew members that can fill in pretty quick, since they are musicians themselves. Maybe his tech knows all or most of the music already?
very possible (and pretty standard), but i also guess there are quite literally hundreds of people that could atleast carry on a basic level of what they need from the role.
give them a week to sort out a possible audition or two, pay, travel, get a few rehearsals in.... and they will be up and running next week

show me one thing he does on a bass that a high school kid who is a fan couldnt fill in with on a weeks notice. im not saying the replacement will be the star of the show but any professional musician should be able to pick up the basics of a standard set for them pretty darn quickly.
additionally odds are the band had an idea slightly before we did.

they are in good shape with who it was! The Avett Bros had the same exact thing happen. There bass had to leave because his daughter was very sick... they had someone come in for a few weeks and fill in.

The most famous example of this situation is when Keith Moon passed out during a Who show because of ketamine. Pete Townshend asked if anyone in the crowd could play drums. A 18 year old dude filled in for Keth. How crazy is that?

I wrote the promoter again and this is all they had to say:
Hello gjackx!
Unfortunately we cannot say at this time when the show will be rescheduled. We're working our hardest to get this information as quickly as possible and when let you know as soon as a date is decided on!
Thanks for your patience,

To be fair, I'd have a brain hemorrhage too if I were listening to repetitive, hipster banjo music at every show.

That sounds awful. Not a Mumford fan but I hope he's alright.
My roommate just told me this. He was supposed to be going. He turns 21 this week too. Bummer
