You getting DVd to hell, but this is actually a good list. While I am not a big VH fan, EVH is one of the true legendary guitarists.

My list would be:

Drums: Peart (icon)
Bass: John Entwistle (I love Les, but his style is too unique to qualify. JE blends creativity with fluidity of the genre. He stands out, but not to the point where it feels weird)
Guitar: Hendrix (blends technique and orchestration like very few others)
Vocals: Maynard (his range and emotion is something to behold)

Drums - Keith Moon (The Who)
Bass- Jack Bruce (Cream)
Guitar - Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Vocals - Paul Rodgers (Bad Company)

Whether you're a fan of their music or not, I think it is pretty hard to argue against Led Zeppelin being the greatest group of rock musicians.

It is mind blowing to hear no quarter and kashmir from Celebration Day when they're all geriatrics and still sound flawless as ever. Minus John of course, but his son kicks arse too.

I started to go with musicians that would be considered among the best at each spot, you know, take my picks from Peart, Portnoy, Carey, Geddy, Les, Jimi, Eddie, Gilmour, Daltrey, Devin, Freddie, etc., etc. But I got to thinking about what kind of music these different combinations would make and I couldn't get past the idea that, no matter how I sliced it, I didn't think any combo would write better songs, play better music or put on better live shows than Zeppelin.

Personally, mine has always been James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Jason Newsted. Metallica's my favorite band and this was their lineup when I discovered them in 1993. I know I'm supposed to revere bassist Cliff Burton more than Newsted, but I didn't live through that era of the band.

Same here.

Second Team:

Drums- Mike Portnoy
Bass- Les Claypool
Guitar- Steve Vai
Vocals- Devin Townsend

I think that line-up would make interesting music.

Iron Maiden is one of the best collection of musicians period. You can put any of them on any best of list, and they will contend.
