Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls

20 years later, how do you rate these bands? When they were current, they both seemed terrible but time has been kind to their music if you ask me. When their old songs come on the radio now, I find myself jamming to them. Don’t know if that’s because their music was actually good or because everything else now is so bad.

Terrible then. Still terrible now.

You listen to music on the radio?

I didn’t like them then and don’t like them now. I’d rate Matchbox 20 above the Goo Goo Dolls I guess but that’s not really saying anything because I don’t like either.

I don’t mind them. Seen both live and Goo Goo Dolls were better live
They have their place.

Neither is my cup of tea but Matchbox 20 is way better

I still listen to them occasionally

The post-grunge rock groups of the 90’s were underrated. We just didn’t realize it at the time.

I hate matchbox 20.. then, now and in the future..
I remember the Goo Goo Dolls when they were kind of a sloppy, punk, replacements-ish band in the late 80s.. when the bass player was primarily the lead vocalist.. they were kind of unremarkable even then.. This song came along, which is decent, and after that they kind of just kept moving toward the sound they are primarily know for

I’m kind of in your boat with matchbox 20. I was so sick of them in the 90s. I enjoy them a lot more now. I liked goo goo dolls then and probably just as much now.

I still rate them like I did in the 90s..."terrible but not as bad as what came after them".

I have a couple of channels on my Pandora like Our Lady Peace that play a lot of both these bands. I really like hearing some of the non-radio hits that I heard a billion times in high school. Both bands of surprised me listening now in my 40's

Matchbox 20 was the bigger band as rob thomas occasionally tours with them.
I like the goo goo dolls better. Songs like black balloon and Name are really really good.
Fun fact, I played piano while johnny rzeznik played guitar to an entire lobby bar in Cancun Mexico one time. Crazy.
We played “slide”

The piano version of 3am is a criminally underrated song
