In reference to the term "bro-country" Luke says, "I take a little offense. I feel the initial term 'bro-country' was created to be kind of a little degrading to what's popular, to what country artists are doing right now." He goes on to say, “It’s frustrating because whichever artists may or may not get labeled as that, they’re well beyond that. For people to call me the father of it, well, whatever. It just seems like a term that was invented to cheapen me as an artist.

Ya think Luke??

Never heard the word "bro-country," but it really is like....the country equivalent of Bullet For My Valentine.

There is no way we "cheapen him as an artist" any more than he has already done to himself. He is a disgrace.

Hick-hop is an acceptable term for the genre as well.

My thought is that yes, the term was invented to cheapen him and his contemporaries as "artists". But if that's the case, why did it happen? Why did that label not get brushed aside as being unwarranted or not having any merit?

There's a reason these terms get traction. In this case they had to INVENT a new term to properly qualify how awful the music is because there was no precedent in the history of awfulness. It's like discovering a new species of animal; you have to come up with a new name for it.

I believe the guy who sings, and I quote...

"Got a little boom in my big truck
Gonna open up the doors and turn it up
Gonna stomp my boots in the Georgia mud
Gonna watch you make me fall in love"

Or the country equivalent of shotgun diarrhea after a beefy five-layer burrito and a large truck stop coffee.

What always gets me is when the "bro-country" guys make references to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, etc. in their songs like they even come close to what those guys were.

quote:

cheapen me as an artist.

Luke Bryan just needs to accept the fact that he is not nor ever will be a true country artist because he sold his soul to Nashville pop for money. More power to him for making money like he does, but don't call yourself country.

I hit Luke Bryan with a cup of beer, got beat up and arrested for it back in the day. Good times.
