Looking back at U2's Rattle and Hum...

It would have been a mighty fine record without all the live tracks (hearing Bono talk 
)...
I was very dismissive of it at the time of release, but just finished listening to it... enjoyed...

It was an album that radically changed my music tastes. It's usually panned, but I loved it.

I guess you missed the best album of the 90s then. But at least you have "cool" music taste.

I actually agree with this. I never really cared for the live tracks.

It's not that I didn't like them. They were one of my favorites when I was in school, but after I got out of college I didn't put as much stock into listening to music. I do think some of their stuff was overplayed on "commercial radio."

I love the live tracks and the reworking of Streets Have No Name. Rattle and Hum is the last U2 album I honestly enjoyed. Why pretend you aren't a pretentious band intent on making anthems to change the world? As soon as their music stopped reflecting the band, I lost interest. I miss messianic Bono, to be honest. U2 doesn't do irony well.

Ive never been a huge fan of U2, I enjoyed their earlier albums and havent thought much of them since the 80's. Ive enjoyed the odd tune from then to now...
I just remember hating Rattle and Hum, but look at the original tunes with a different view now...

I understand why it’s so reviled. It really is a pompous album that runs too long, but honestly, I can’t think of another critically reviled album with so many great songs on it. Hawkmoon, Van Dieman’s Land, and especially All I Want Is You are go-to U2 songs for me.

I love going back now to albums that I really didnt' care for much at the time but revisit now 20+ years later and appreciate it more. For instance, I never cared for REM's Reckoning or Fables back then as much as Murmur or Life's Rich but went back after a thread on here and I seem to enjoy it much more now. The The is another. Always like Infected and Dusk and now have gone back to Mind Bomb.

Most definitely, there were 80s bands a swore off, because I was young and dumb... when I got a little older, I opened my mind a bit and have gone back over the years and discovered great records...
