I always liked their mainstream hits growing up, but now that I'm an old fart their entire catalog sounds so much better. My Dad is always listening to them while driving so I think I'm starting to carry that same torch.

The past 2 decades I’ve completely overlooked Interpol. Until their recent release that I really like called “See Out Loud”. I They have a new album coming out in August.
Listening to some of their older stuff. They have that sound I really love.

I hated grunge and all the new music of the early 90's. I wanted my glam rock back damnit. By the end of the decade STP had become my favorite band and lSoundgarden wasn't far behind and Pearl Jam right behind them, but from about late 91ish to 97 or so I hated it, or so I thought.

Hated country until a week ago when i heard one of Zach Tops songs. That lead me to Gary Stewart and down the rabbit hole. Still wont listen to “modern” country though

This is a good one. When they were putting stuff out, I thought it was faggy girl music. Later in life I began to appreciate it more. It's still faggy girl music, but it's really good.
Rush is another one. I didn't like them in their peak, it was the voice I didn't like. It grew on me though, by the time I was 30 I loved them.

Same here. The 2011 Gram Parsons tribute album “Return of the Grievous Angel” sent me down a rabbit hole of Americana musicians.
Was recently listening to a Emmylou Harris cover of Joni Mitchell’s “The Magdalene Laundries” and thought what a shame it is that we didn’t get to hear her record more music with Gram. That led me to do some research on his death and I learned about the theft of his body by his road manager — there are some legendary rock-and-roll tales out there but this has to be one of the most bizarre.

The gym I used to train in in central FL used to play a grunge station out of Orlando. I don't like grunge. It sounded dark, angry, simple, very little musicianship. That's still my take to this day but the singer for the Stone Temple Pilots was a really good vocalist but I didn't appreciate him to until 20+ years later.

Sturgill Simpson - just started listening maybe 2 years ago. I’ve known the name, but never listened for whatever reasons. I imagine the initial country people quickly abandoned him after the first few releases. I got to start with Johnny Blue Skies and work my way back. Every album is different, but when live all the songs get blended into a bluesy, psychedelic journey.
As others have posted: Built to Spill, Interpol, The Smiths, Radiohead. I hated Radiohead because all the same people who were listening to New Kids got their first exposure to deeper music with Creep. All I Need, Dark Star, and I Might be Wrong are all in frequent rotation on my playlist now, still hate Creep.

The Canadian cowboy singer Corb Lund is an incredible songwriter. He's not a dress up cowboy, his dad was a livestock vet in Alberta and he was a genuine working cowboy from the age of 13 or so. Kind of a raunchier George Strait. Dozens and dozens of really great songs.
