Stone Temple Pilot's frontman Scott Weiland is criminally underappreciated.

I don't get why they get lumped in with the Seattle bands. They were from San Diego.

Guitar purists hate that simplicity sounds better than complexity. The vast majority of people don’t enjoy super technical guitar playing

As a singer yes, but definitely as a frontman. Weiland is who I picture when I hear Rock Star.

Likewise.

So much talent. So much charisma.

He had a punkier voice, was more engaging and could play the guitar.

That's why he was the best grunge singer.

Great song writer

What songs are examples of this?

Dumb was Kurt's self reflection song. Great lyrics.

I was def a punk/indie snob in the 90s.. so of course, Nirvana was the only one of those bands that really mattered or appealed to me of the "big 4". It's still the only one of the 4 I like, though each have songs I dont mind except AIC (just not my thing at all).. So, naturally Cobain's voice/guitar/songwriting was always more appealing to me..

STP was kind of a joke band back then, so I never really gave their music the time of day... no one I know really did..

STP kind of a joke? Yeah right, they were fricking legit. IMO they had a stronger first two albums than any of the other. Core and Purple were both amazing albums.

go listen to isolated vocals on youtube from nevermind and in utero. Kurt had some great vocals and was a very underrated singer in his own right.

had nirvana continued or kurt remained alive, I feel like he would have drifted towards more of an alt country/americana sound.

I feel like tyler childers vocal stylings are reminiscent of kurt cobain tbh.

People trashed STP for sounding too much like Pearl Jam and Weiland aping Vedder's facial expressions in their music videos. It was just backlash from hipsters and others getting tired of the trend

I think Tiny Music is great as well, and even No. 4 has held up very well. The DeLeo brothers are undeniably great musicians/songwriters.

I was the same way. I came to appreciate STP later. AIC is one of those things I will never understand. The vocals cause me physical pain.

Everyone’s singing sucks compared to Layne Staley. Dude was one of the greatest hard rock vocalists that ever lived.

I love pearl jam but I’d go with Kurt’s vocals over Eddie
