Really enjoyed the Bakersfield segment. I did not know a lot about that. Too bad "Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass" didn't make it. One year too new.

That Jan Howard interview and story hit me hard.

Every one should watch that. That was exactly the attitude of most Southerners. They were right that most of the draftees were the poor white and blacks and we all thought we were suppose to support them. In hindsight I understand how bad the government screwed us in Viet Nam but in 1969 even us kids supported the soldiers.

Glad they included “Girl from the North Country”

I discovered that song during a rough patch and it’s always been one of my favorites.

Youtube gem I found was Eddie Vedder doing that song. I know I am a total PJ Homer, but damn it was awesome.

Did the Outlaw movement occur in the time frame that episode covers?

There's your answer.

Here's their son singing a song I was stunned never got any airplay. GREAT song. LINK

I'm telling you, if you have the chance, read the Jones autobiography. Absolutely Amazing what that man lived through.

Could not disagree more, but to each his own.

Anyways, I'm so glad there is a thread for this on this board!

Disagree. Country music (at least in the early days) was pretty much a Scots-Irish thing. Those poor hillbillies in Appalachia brought it over.

Then explain Jimmie Rodgers.

The only thing I really don't like so far is how they denigrate John Denver. frick them. Much of his stuff was as country as can be.
