I was surprised to see what an a-hole bill monroe was.
Can you blame him? People made fun of him his whole life because he had a lazy eye. I like the part about him cutting trees, by himself, hauling them down the mountain, by himself, then driving the log wagon in to town as a "strapping young man." I guess so if you're a one-man lumberjack team. Who wouldn't be?

I was blown away by that husband/wife song writing teams total record sales. I think it was over 300 million.
Some prolific writers.
No idea Patsy Was so young when she passed away. Seems like she’s be fun to hang out with and shoot the shite.

I thought it was 500 million. Pretty crazy, no matter the numbers. They said 900 of their songs were recorded.
Willie Nelson’s career is extraordinarily fascinating as well.

I didn’t want to exaggerate but I think you’re right. That is just a stunning number.

That's just fun music. What about Brenda Lee's voice when she was freaking 12 years old?

I read somewhere that Monroe was able to physically lift all of his band members at one time. Not a guy to fool with.

Bill Monroe also refused to be a hillbilly caricature and had the men in his band dress professionally. I love the hats that he and people like Bob Wills wore.

I liked Marty Stuart's comment that Monroe hated Elvis's version of Blue Moon of Kentucky....until the royalty checks started coming in.

Elvis made a lot of songwriters a shite-ton of money.

Jean Shepard pops up in some spots, and they told the story (I didn't know) about her husband Hawkshaw Hawkins also being a singer and dying in the plane crash with Patsy Cline.
I was watching Marty Stuart's RFD show one time when he introduced her. I had not heard of her, and I groaned a bit when an old lady shuffled out like a nursing home patient.
Well, she sang the HELL out of that song. It really taught me a lesson about judging people based on appearances.
In 2015, she became the first woman to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 60 consecutive years. She retired from the stage that night, and she died in 2016.

The Carter Family interests the hell out of me. 3 hillbillies that made a days journey to Bristol, with car trouble, to sing into a can, became the first family of country music. The producer remarked Sarah had 'it' when he heard her voice. They became instant celebrities. AP Carter searched the countryside for poems and songs of old and used them in his catalogue, many of which are still recorded today. Also AP and Sarah seemed to care less about the fame and touring after a few years, as AP tended a general store until he died in 1960.

really drives home how important the invention of the radio and the Great Depression were to the creation of the genre.

I didn't know she has been married to Marty Stuart since 1997; she is nearly 18 years his senior, but still very attractive.
Jeannie C. Riley was hawt!
