Hank Williams GOAT

Yep. That’s made pretty clear in the documentary.

Patsy Cline GOAT woman
The end of the Burns episode tonight just reminded me of how great she was. Beautiful too.
I didn't know she was only 30 years old when she died.

Patsy remains the GOAT, regardless of
genre.
genre.

There isn't a human being who lived his songs more than Hank Sr. did.

Geauxbrown is your father from Mississippi? And played baseball?

quote:
"What white people like to call 'country music' was in fact invented by blacks, that is to say, African Americans, and stolen from these same African Americans, or rather, blacks, long before the turn of the century.
Blind Bobby Barker, Crippled Carl Crocker, Infirm Izzy Izzard and Deaf Danny Derwood were all in the Mississippi Delta playing hillbilly music. Which is especially impressive since they didn't have any hills.
Or billies -- the result of the post-Civil War anti-billying movement."
This is funny considering the black people they have on the show are not saying this. They're saying, along with the whites, that country music is a conglomeration of musical styles and genres from many different racial and ethnic groups.

That's good. I was just saying that. I haven't watched this yet.

More revisionist crap from Burns. I shut it off .
Care to provide specific examples, or are you just showing your arse?

No sir. He’s originally from Richland Parish. Went to Nashville in the late 60’s and wound up working with Donna Fargo, Dolly and Loretta for many years.

Lefty Frizzell makes an appearance.

Even heard W Marsalis say tonight that there’s a misconception regarding only whites listening to black music, when in fact blacks have long listened to white music as well.
It goes both ways.

Chuck Berry loved country music.

Long Black Veil, is a great one.

Lefty got busted for messing around with an underage girl. In this time, his career would have been over.

Was he wearing a long, black, veil in Saginaw, Michigan? I wonder if his father-in-law is still digging for gold in Alaska.

Jimmie Rodgers' "He's in the Jailhouse Now" is also a reworked Vaudeville song with different lyrics. Blind Blake did a version of this song as well a few years before Jimmie.

I’m a couple episodes behind, so I watched ep 2 last night. Really enjoyed the Gene Autry and Bob Wills segments.
Bob Wills’ stage antics were great to watch, but damn he sounded like a rough dude off stage.
Pretty amazing how much wealth and fame Gene Autry accumulated through his life, while Wills was pretty much broke the last 25 years of his.
Wish they could have interviewed Merle Haggard about 10 years before they did. He has some great commentary, but it’s tough to watch him sometimes.
