Just how good is "I Miss You" by Blink 182?

For a band that usually had the fast paced punk rock songs, I feel like them doing this "ballad", if you can call it that, shows the potential for how good their range really was. It's probably my favorite Blink song.

I like Blink 182.

Their slower songs are actually pretty good. Adam's Song and Stay Together For the Kids are also pretty solid.

It may be unpopular on here, but I like both them and Green Day and a big part of it is they both showed range beyond just the fast paced pop punk they came out with.

They had a lot of excellent ballads and were a huge influence on me as a teen. A lot of my songwriting, especially in ballads, is hugely influenced by them.

I do get why they’re hated. They were fun unserious music in a very self-serious and cynical time. Tom Delonge’s voice is whiny. If you’re in the right mindset or maturity level to connect with it, it feels vulnerable, raw, and emotional. If you’re not, it sounds grading, whimpy, and pathetic.

I was at the right age for Blink when I first heard them. It really resonated with me, as did much of the first and second wave pop punk acts like Greenday, Yellowcard, Bowling for Soup, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, etc. However, I can see someone not hearing that until they’re already an adult and it not resonating the same way with them as it did for me. That music isn’t for everyone.

The first time it hits on Stay together for the kids, I think I blew out my speakers the first time I listened to it. I had no idea haha

Blink was definitely different, kinda like Nirvana in the 90's. Their stuff is pretty catchy, like it.

you can definitely tell when tom's part comes in...

Hello there,
The angel from my nightmare,
The shadow in the background of the morgue.
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley.
We can live like Jack and Sally
If we want.
Where you can always find me
And we'll have Halloween on Christmas.
And in the night we'll wish this never ends,
We'll wish this never ends.

Because of this thread I went back and listened to some Blink 182 songs today. I was a teenager and just getting into rock/metal when this stuff, Sum41, etc came along while learning to play guitar so it was right up my alley. Great for what it is and was a nice pit stop on my roadtrip into the world of metal and more skilled guitar-based music.

If you ever want some good potty jokes, listen to the live album the Mark Tom and Travis show.

Interesting note, Anthem Pt 2 (on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket) has some very interesting lyrics relative to today's current events and climate.

Also, Yellowcard's Ocean Avenue is one of my favorite albums ever. The acoustic version may be better.

Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard and Chuck by Sum 41 are still some of my most influential albums.

It’s right up for there me as well. It came at a very influential point in my life in junior high.. everyone had that Cd... that and Confessions by Usher

It was a blast to see Yellowcard on their farewell tour a few years ago as they played all the hits .

On a side note, I actually like Tom’s band, Angels Airwaves’ first album “We Don’t Need To Whisper”. It’s great from start to finish, no track skips necessary imo.

I love this band.. their sound Is different .

They hadn’t toured in several years and I flew out to L.A to finally see them live in October , I’ve been a fan ever since their song The War was the intro to the 2-a-days show on MTV back in the day .

Dammit Is an all time great. Blink 182 is a really under rated band because of their jovial nature I think.
