Amazing documentary that came out last year. Just watched it on DVD. Highly recommend.

When she wasn't bloated like at the end of her life, she was hot AF.

I enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting the "she lost her one true love" angle (I wasn't previously aware of that), but I thought it was a well-done documentary...

The chicks coming out of that California Sound were flat-out sexy. Grace Slick was such a pioneer at that time as well as Signe Toly Anderson for the Airplane.

I actually started a thread on it after I watched last week. I thought it was very well done.

I believe bisexual based on various accounts.

She liked men and women, but her most important and lasting relationships seemed to be with men.

I have cousin from Port Arthur who is about 20 years older than me. She knew/went to high school with Janis Joplin. I remember her having dinner at our house when I was about 8 or 9, and the adults were talking about Janis. It may have been right after she died.
I only recall the event because during the conversation I heard her whisper, "She's a lesbian", in sort of kind of a scandalized tone. Being an idiot/curious child, I immediately asked, "What's a lesbian?"

I watched it with my neighbor, who's from Port Arthur and about 2 years younger than Janis. He's got some interesting stories, to say the least.

It is a great documentary and showed a lot of film of her that has never been shown before.
As a Janis Joplin fan who got to see her perform live several times including at Woodstock, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Your neighbor graduated with my old boss then. His wife was friends with her younger sister or something like that. His older brother was in her graduating class. No interesting stories other than yeah, she was a little different and he couldn't believe how she became so popular.

Janis Joplin was never hot or even remotely attractive.

She's a lesbian

You're absurd.

I really need to watch that. Thanx for the reminder.
I don't think"hot" was the right word for her. At least not in the way we usually use it. I think she would have been a Butter-face type to most that she met,and beautiful groupies were easy to get,and easier to get rid of.
She was 1 of a kind, and probably hard to deal with on a personal level. Her drive, probably freaked most guys out.Who ever had any experience with a woman like that?
As a result, her popularity and success made her more isolated.

I would suggest this book as a follow-up. Written by her "alleged" lesbian lover. I read it years ago. Pretty steamy.

shite, looks like my kind of book.

Of course I probably am going to open myself to ridicule,WTF.
The book The Rose, was supposedly about her. Like everything Hollywood does, they made it into a chick flick. That book is pretty good though.
I don't know how much is really about her,how much is borrowed, how much is artistic license. I liked it though.
