Is Trent Reznor the most depressing songwriter of all time?

Im a fan of NIN, but all his songs are pretty fricking depressing.

The same could be said about Kurt Cobain. His "suicide" only further validates his depression.

He definitely has some pretty depressing songs (Avalanche, Everybody Knows, The Future), but I would say a good bit of his stuff is not depressing. Incredible songwriter.

Absolutely. Reznor's music sounds more depressing. Elliott used a lot more bright, major keys, but the lyrics were pretty depressing.
Shannon Hoon was very similar. Blind Melon's first album was bright and poppy, but the lyrics were a total contrast to that. By Soup, everything he wrote seemed to be sad. The most optimistic song he ever wrote was possibly New Life, and given his subsequent death and leaving Nico without a father, it's by far the saddest in retrospect.

I don't think so. I never could get into NIN for some reason.

I connect so much with his whole body of work lyrically it scares me sometimes.
I mean I feel him so much some times I think he's literally singing about me.
It's not really that depressing to me but it is visceral
