He's such an attention-whoring douchebag. Kurt Cobain should have never made that fgt famous.

Anyway the real answer is the BYRDS, whose entire schtick was taking the greatest songs ever written and repackaging them in a generic, pleasing, poppish manner palatable to the various housewives & grey flannel suits. An "accomplishment" for which Roger McGuinn somehow manages to be inordinately smug, 100% of the time.

honestly I'm surprised they didn't 'break up' with the sole intent to have a high profile reunion tour six months later

Thought of this this morning, but I submit Aerosmith for this as well.

They were a real band for quite some time. If you nominate Aerosmith, you´ve got to nominate the Stones.

The Byrds covered four (4) separate songs off of Another Side of Bob Dylan alone. They sure sold a lot of records though; all my great-aunts just loved them!

Well that's disappointing. Hiatus means there's a chance they will come back.

Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Early work was good, but the past 10-20
Years have been very sterile. They've mailed it in.

bumped this thread to say sting and the police. Holy frick what overrated crap. The songs they're known for:

roxanne
doo doo dah dah
every breath you take
message in a bottle
every little thing she does is magic
don't stand

It doesn't get more "sterile, generic and non-threatening" than that.
