I don’t think there is, there are more legendary drummers sure, but the absurd raw talent of the guy is unmatched.

what makes Danny so great and different is that he has such a unique tribal style. Sometimes it sounds like he has 8 arms

As far as talent goes?

Id say Zbigniew Prominski, Tomas Asklund, Jan Axel Blomberg, Dave Lombardo at the top of his game..quite a few more.. A lot of great drummers out there

One i was thinking if the other day that may surprise people..Jimmy Chamberlin is actually a lot better than the smashing pumpkins would have you know.

yes

Although this is as stupid question, because we are comparing great drummers in which it's impossible to qualify one better than the other. Gavin is playing in the same league as Danny, and I would say neither is better than the other

Jimmy Chamberlin

is highly regarded in the music industry and people in the know. his style is so fluid that it blends perfectly with the distortion of the Pumpkins sound that you can't really notice just how creative and precise his playing is. JC is legit greatness

I respect any accomplished jazz drummer, coming from the world of extreme metal where drumming is important and key in a lot of legit bands, imo legit jazz is still a bigger beast to ride for a drummer.

Not alive.

Jazz drummers were mentioned. Do not disagree. I think you could put Carey in behind a jazz kit and he’d be fine. He’s like those people on YouTube who can play anything on a guitar. Classical or steel string. He has mastered the drums. You could task him with anything to play and any style. Give him a bit of time to rehearse it and he’d nail it.

I'm sure there are some better drummers, but Danny Carey is my favorite one that's for sure.

Damn skippy. That entire video is awesome.

I've watched it through and through several times.

The best are the stories of how he came up with the beats, etc.

Bonnie The Cat, while not one of my favorite PT tunes, is saved by the drums.

Same here. I revisit it every so often and am always amazed. When he runs those kicks near the end for his big moment you can't help but stare in awe. Watching his feet work is stunning.

His intention with that kick mayhem I referenced was to create a sound of drums being played backwards on a record, meaning taking standard beats on a record and spinning the record backwards on the turntable ala Judas Priest in the early 90s. The dude is an absolute genius

I love Jimmy Chamberlain and Stewart Copeland. Stew probably has a bit more recognition amongst the general average public listener. Eric Kretz and Chad Sexton are also two very talented drummers who while in extremely popular bands dont ever seem to get widespread credit for being as talented as they are.

Danny's a beast, to OP's point. Obviously.

Super talented cat for sure. Right now Keith Carlock is probably my favorite. That man knows how to build a solo and can deep groove.

There won't be a competition or anything but I think danny could play in literally any style imaginable and in any time signature he was asked to play. He's a drumming master.

What is better?

Josh Freese and Brian Blade come to mind.

I love watching Danny Carey play drums.

I also love watching Terrence Houston and Joe Russo.
