Pearl Jam is my personal GOAT band.

But I know Cornell was a better singer especially in his later years. I will always regret not seeing one of his acoustic shows.

Pearl Jam is great, and their longevity is amazing. Lots of luck involved in them all surviving. Perhaps Andy Woods OD had something to do with them surviving.

No. The 90s were too important to be be represented by 1 band or artist.

And if it were, it wouldnt be generic pearl jam.

They made enough good to great records in the 90s to have a strong argument. It was always a big deal when they released something new.

I disagree with this statement. Their first couple albums were over-produced at the behest of the record companies to appeal to a broader audience. After that, they made a concerted effort to shy away from the mainstream ie limited music videos, blocking singles, feud with Ticketmaster etc....

A few fun facts about Pearl Jam's early days: If you go find old publicity shots from Ten album promotion, the guys in the band can be seen wearing hair metal band rock tee shirts. Unironically. They also first played their debut single video for "Alive" on NOT 120 Minutes, the MTV alt-rock video show, but on Headbanger's Ball. Along with Alice In Chains, they were originally pegged to be part of a genre conception at the time that was called "alt-metal". Both of those bands were more closely linked to Queensryche than grunge, believe it or not.

It was very confusing to promoters and programmers where everybody was supposed to fit in. The fact that certain bands came from the epicenter of grunge (Seattle) but didn't really fit the pre-'91 notion of what that music sounded like. Anybody who heard Nirvana Bleach and Pearl Jam's early music would never figure they would be shoehorned into a subgenre so closely as the way they ended up.

Headbanger's Ball played lots of grunge. It wasn't uncommon to see Pearl Jam, Firehouse, and Pantera all in the same segment.
