Is one of the MB’s favorite bands, Greta Van Fleet, too much of a carbon copy of LZ?

Didn’t get a chance to see them live at Hangout Fest, but from the vids I have seen from other shows, they might as well call themselves a cover band if the lead singer is going to do Robert Plant’s mannerisms on stage

No doubt the dudes got talent, but surely they’re gonna have to branch out and come up with a unique sound if they wanna make it big, right?

They're really talented but hopefully will find their own sound. They haven't even released a full album yet so I'll give them some time

Their 15 minutes of fame is almost over. Copycat, one trick pony, seen better Zep tributes in the quad ect.....

I saw/heard them for the first time at Shaky Knees a couple weeks ago. While they are talented and the lead singer has pipes I found myself not getting into it for that very reason. I love Zep but it just seems lazy - they do the whole 60s/70s shtick and sound exactly like them.

Yes. /thread

If you played it to a casual led zep fan they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I find that a massive insult to Led Zeppelin.

The singer sounds like Plant, but the guitarist is very young and very unpolished. He doesn't have a lead style. The drummer couldn't hold Bonham's jock.

I hope this band keeps going and gets big before the music industry and its shite culture beat them down into jaded wash outs. They need a strong manager and solid following.

They have alot of potential. Many many many bands start out sounding like their influences and then develop their own style. I hope these kids keep going.

Music fans who shite on them for sounding like Led Zeppelin or being too one dimensional when none of them are older than 25 and they haven't even released a full CD yet art as much to blame for the disparaging state of the music industry as the producers who promote and support vanilla bland nonsense

It’s just way too unoriginal. You can sound like bands and have your own uniqueness. The War on Drugs has obvious influences, you hear Dylan. Springsteen, etc... but they have their own unique sound.

Never understood how this band broke through, truly derivative in all the worst ways.

They are incredible.

They completely rip off Zeppelin but I don’t care. Great band.

Plant is aware of them and digs them. I'm less impressed, but happy some young kids are still doing "the rock and roll" - just FWIW.

Greta Van Fleet is a corporate commercial studio wet dream. They are a sham. A painted facade. A living charade.

And their fans that pave the way for this bland vanilla rock nonsense are responsible for the death of creative and innovative music as well as the erosion of the meaning of generational talent.

That's a weird time to copy and paste my own words.

It's a nice display of your own ignorance though

Not really. It perfectly describes this band IMO.

Oh great. This thread again.

They are fun to listen to but won’t really amount to anything by ripping off LZ.

None of them have the chops of Page, Jones, and Bonham, so obviously the finished product is too one-dimensional.

That's not to say that with a bit of woodshedding, they can't evolve into something else. I didn't write off Rush or The Black Crowes after their earliest songs, so I guess it wouldn't be fair to kick GVF to the curb just yet.

I just hope for GVF's sake, their management doesn't try to bleed every drop of blood out of them for a quick buck, and actually allow them a chance to find their own groove.
