Only thing I think comes close is 'Civil War' but don't believe it edges out.

Yes, but so is Civil War. Really can't exclude either one of them. I always put Civil War in my top ten favorite songs by them. Haunting, great dynamics, superb chorus, and general bad arse song.

There is nothing masterpiece about anything on the Illusion albums. The entire Appetite for Destruction front to back is a masterpiece.

That wedding cake was a masterpiece right up until dude jumped THROUGH it.

Totally reasonable. Who wants to get rained on?

Slash is absolutely amazing on this track. Estranged has always been one of my GNR favorites.

Probably and ironically, the video was the death of Guns-n-Roses.

Slash is very overrated. He couldn't bend a note to pitch if his life depended on it. IMO estranged is mediocre at best, not a masterpiece.

I have to go with 'Rocket Queen'. It's always been my favorite of theirs. Any "masterpiece" from G N' R should come from Appetite.....

ETA: I like 'Estranged', like someone said earlier, the whole Appetite album is their real masterpiece.

I hope to God not. What a bloated f'n carcass of a song. It's a nine minute power ballad, which used to be everything that Guns n Roses was not.

I remember watching the video when it premiered and Axl jumped off the oil tanker to start swimming with dolphins and it was like a giant sign: "THE ERA OF G'n'R AS A GREAT BAND IS OVER." It was just so ridiculous.

Oh, and their masterpiece is Mr. Brownstone. Which is everything Estranged is not. Mainly, awesome.

GnR's masterpiece? That would be "Sweet Child O' Mine". Just a beautiful song and just as fresh as the day it was released.

I thought it was over with November Rain but remember how big an effing deal that made about the premiere of the Estranged video too?

They should refer to that as when a rock band reaches the end of their greatness. Jump the Dolphins.

I thought November Rain was a pretty good tune -- and a solid track to choose when the stripper tells you the lap dance only lasts one song -- but I just always got hung up on that guy running through the wedding cake. Does anybody have an explanation for why that happened?

Oh, and GnR doesn't have a masterpiece, but they do have a best song and it goes by the name of Paradise City.
