I Can't Do With That

More, many, but didn't excite.

Talent was there, and evident.

Your cup of tea or no, is another question (weren't mine, but merit worthy).

Just for shits and giggles, I’ve always found Frank Zappa to be unlistenable.

That's your loss.

Their good songs:

Wait For Me
Rich Girl
She's Gone
Sara Smile

I liked a few more when a kid, but looking back, those were not good.

can’t honestly say if they are or aren’t as i’m truly not familiar with their work.
In the 80s i was more into rock (or what we called rock at that time) than pop or r&b or anything else.

but i really do appreciate Live at Daryl’s house.
dude is obviously quite talent and diverse in his taste.
plus they cook every episode.

Not really. He's serviceable.

Great songwriters though. Hall in particular.

Now, Hall, as a rhythm guitarist, is exceptional. He knows exactly what tone he wants, and he gets it out of that Thinline Tele.

Every Time You Go Away, was a great song musically and vocally. I never was crazy about the lyrics.

Wasn't GE Smith the lead guitarist during their heyday?

Yes, he was. and they couldn't have asked for a better player. Perfect for what they did. I've always really liked the way he plays. As a matter of fact, I just mentioned him the other day, in the thread about signature guitars. I would really like to try one of his sig tellies. Maybe I could get just a tiny little bit of his tone.

Along the Red Ledge was the first studio album on which Hall & Oates used their road band (previously they had relied heavily on session musicians), a trend they would carry through their heyday of the early 1980s.

Smith wasnt on Red Ledge album, but he was on the next one.

ATRL featured Caleb Quaye, Rick Neilson, Steve Lukather, Dick Wagner, George Harrison and Todd Rundgren.

Prior to that, they had Hugh McCracken, Chris Bond, Robert Fripp and Todd Sharp.

Not too shabby

Paul Young actually covered the song 5 years later and had a big hit with it. As much as it pains me to say this, he did a better job than Daryl did with it.
