He is like a cross between a Ronnie Van Zandt and Travis Tritt. The problem is that people have already been exposed to something like that. He isn't bringing anything new on stage as traditional country fans are desperately trying to grab onto because everything else in Nashville is garbage.
I do give him credit for taking advantage of the weakest competition for decades in country music. He is fortunate he didn't have to compete with the legends of the past. He is talented but for a lack of better word his competition is shite.

Patrick Mahomes didn’t have to play against Lawrence Taylor or Prime Time. You have to take historical context into consideration.
In a vacuum, Nirvana isn’t that interesting, but for the moment in which they burst onto the scene, they were revolutionary and represented a massive cultural shift in music.

Has Susan tedeschi syndrome and oversings simple lyrics but I think he’s pretty good, have about 3 or 4 of his songs in the rotation

Well, wisdom comes to me pretty easy, when I'm drinking beer and smokin a little weed.

100% disagree. nirvana was a very interesting band, especially live.

My wife really likes Chris Stapleton. Which is a pretty big indicator of someone's musical offerings being cat shite.

This thread made me think & I still can't put my finger on it. I'm not musical and don't understand the theory and musicality of what I listen to but ...
We saw him a couple weeks ago in The Woodlands and it was weirdly ok. He sounded perfect, great show , very well done but no emotion. He was like a guy with a perfect voice singing, not really stirring any emotion. It was sort of forgettable.
We saw Aaron Lewis a couple months ago at a dumpy Lake Charles casino and it was totally different than Stapleton. Less production quality, a guy with a guitar, that sang in a way you could see the pain on his face & feel it in the crowd. Pain, love , whatever he sang you knew it. He probably missed some notes or something here & there.
Two different experiences for a normal guy like me who really can't tell the difference between a melody or harmony.

I haven't listened to Stapleton a lot, but he's got a great voice, he just wastes it on generic songs. I suppose it has worked for him so far, but it seems he could find better material.

If this is generic then I’m not sure what I’d call most everything coming out these days. Lots of people trying way too hard itt. Stapleton is a generational singer and songwriter

That is a pretty average song lyrically, IMHO. It's good guitar and vocals, but it isn't something that makes me want to listen again. To each their own though, and that's kind of the point of this thread.

Saw Aaron Lewis at Hard Rock Live in Biloxi years back. Great show.

But a good song is a sum of all its parts, not just the lyrics. I wasn’t attacking you btw, you just happened to be the last response. But some itt are trying way too hard. Check the lyrics on this one. Beautiful song

Yeah, I know that one, and I liked it. Basic progression with good lyrics and vocals. That song will stand on it's own, almost doesn't matter who does it. That's what I would like to hear more of, and that's the kind of song that lives a long time through campfire guitar players, because it's simple.

Have you listened to his most recent album yet? It has some really well written stuff on it

People that generally have shite taste in music freaking latched on to him like he was this massive talent. Although I believe he is very talented, when common shite music fans go full blown fanboy on someone so quickly, it REALLY pollutes the well.
