I love their stuff but going to echo the live complaints mentioned. Ad libbing live and changing SOME stuff up is artistic license and shows musical and songwriting talent. The way Adam changes the melodies/lyrics/song structure makes things unrecognizable and it really soured me on their stuff for a while. I was genuinely excited to see them and that ended quickly.

If they came nearby and tickets were cheap I'd consider going.

I like them. Saw them at the Varsity in '94. Very good live band.

Damn, I bet that was awesome. I’d definitely see them in a small venue like that.

I can handle a live version being a little off. But he changes it to the point that he is talking over the music instead of singing. Ruins classic songs.

Hard Candy is my favorite album by them. Recovering the Satellites would be second. Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings is okay. Cowboys is a great song from that album.

It really was. Their first album had only been out for about 6-8 months.

But have you heard their single released earlier this year, "August and everything after." I read it was actually written for the namesake album but they didn't record it.

Can I say simultaneously over and under rated?

I’d guess an average to casually engaged music fan probably assumes they were a classic 90s pop rocky band with a top heavy catalogue while I think I think their second tier cuts do really shine

As mentioned, it depends on the show you get. Seen them twice once was awesome. The second wasn't terrible but he did break into the "spoken word" type thing in the lyrics, and changed arrangements and tempo.

I can remember their VH1 Storytellers CD. I bought it before seeing it on TV. It is terrible. He makes every song a song I no longer like.

All that said, "August" is a legit beginning to end album. Second album (name escapes me) is almost as good.

Ugh. Can't stand singers who sing through their nose.
