What are your thoughts on them? IMO, they were one of the most underrated grundge/jam bands of their time. I'd put them in my top 5 favorite bands.

I knew you'd think so. One of the best musical tastes on the board, from what ive seen. Very similar to mine.

They released two albums of original material, No Rain and Soup. Nico was unreleased songs and reworked tracks from earlier sessions. I think Blind Melon were a very cool band but does their body of work warrant a best of the 90s comparison? Basically, does two albums make them a contender? Honest questions not looking for a fight.

They were also two of my favorite albums of the 90s

Fair enough
Damn shame when drugs take great men and women in rock and roll.

Fify. And they were probably my two favorite albums of the 90's. And up there on my all time favorite list.

Soup is such an amazing album. The ST album was also very good. It saddens me to think of what could have been if Shannon Hoon were still alive.
I wasn't too happy that they jumped on the bandwagon with Alice in Chains in getting a new singer and releasing new material. I understand where they are coming from, but they should have really just formed a new band with a new singer. They have good songwriters so there's no need to try to recreate something that is already lost.
I consider their two albums some of the best of the 90's.

another one fallen at 27. I think his self titled album alone was one of the best, most pure albums in that genre. They blew Pearl Jam, Nirvana and maybe even AIC away, but never really got the mainstream hype. Im almost glad they didnt, as it seems like a cliche to listen to the bands i just named now.

I won't go as far as saying it's the best album of the 90s, but I do really like their first two albums, particularly the first.

Soup is the only one I can stomach. I'm not saying their first one is bad. I'm saying I got to the point I wanted to kill MF'ers for playing the shite out of that album especially up in Starkville.

I love both but Soup is my favorite of the two as well

Im a HUGE melon fan. I got to see them live twice. Once a few days before woodstock in nj and they played for 3 plus hours, one of the best shows ive ever seen. Then i also saw them about a month before shannon died also in nj. My friend lived in nola when he died and he sent me the ticket to the show that was canceled the day he died. I still have it framed. Shannon hoon is one of my favorite lead singers, cool lyrics and awesome personality. I took it really really hard when he died.

Count me as a fan. If I ever have a son, I will petition hard for naming him Shannon.
