Maybe not playing metal, but there are absolutely lots of similar acts (I’m not calling them a band) in other musical genres.
Here is an example:
I get the comparison, I'm just making jokes. But I don't see your quibble as being that big of a deal. They're a manufactured act in some fashion, so what? Bands and musical acts have always had some behind the scenes machinations, and/or a certain formula for airplay and success. Session musicians aren't a big deal, either. Everyone uses session players, from Motown on down. With Babymetal, the girls sing and dance with a backing band on stage. Like countless musical acts have done for eons. Nuno is in Rihanna's touring band, has been for years.
This goes hard.

Definitely go see Babymetal if you can get a ticket.
If you don't then 20 years from now you will be wishing you had gone.

I wouldn’t call Rihanna a “band” either.
But I also don’t think solo artists with a touring band are a valid comparison to a contrived musical act.
And Rihanna is a pop act. I don’t really give a shite what she does. But metal fans I expect more from.

I'm not a metal fan so maybe that's why I like Babymetal.
What more do you expect from metal fans than what Babymetal gives them?

This says a lot. Makes sense.

I certainly don’t speak for metal fans, but the ones I know (including myself) tend to hate any sort of fakery and don’t respect contrived acts.
Metal fans hated hair metal for much of these reasons and many of those bands were fantastic musicians. But many of them were also contrived and fake.

I didn't call Rihanna a band. My point was that a dude as good as Nuno doesn't have an issue playing for her because he's a professional musician, like so many others that play on stage or in the studio.
All bands and musical acts are contrived. Kiss, Alice Cooper, Maiden, Floyd, etc.
What do you expect from metal fans? They owe you nothing as fans or spectators.

Several bands have started as a contrived or fake band but grew into a good band.
Perhaps the best example is The Monkees.

The Monkees were a completely fake band. Maybe the fakest ever.

My entire point, which appears to have gotten lost, is that Baby Metal is not a band, but a musical act. Which is fine. I never made a single comment about their music, the quality or their talent.
I simply said they are a contrived act, similar to many extremely successful groups such as the Backstreet Boys and many K-Pop groups.
There is nothing wrong with that, if that is your thing. But apparently people got their feelings hurt that I don't consider Baby Metal to be the same thing as a regular metal band. I don't even think that's a controversial opinion. It seems obvious.

This is completely false. "Contrived" in this sense is arranged by a third party, as if they were casting a TV show or movie. That is how boy bands, girl groups and K-Pop acts are put together, and that is how Baby Metal was formed.

Kiss, Alice Cooper, Maiden, Floyd
None of these bands are contrived and all formed naturally.

Even if a band is contrived that doesn't mean they can't be a great band and make great music like Babymetal has done.
Over the years I have seen a lot of great bands perform and I consider myself able to determine when a band is great. Babymetal is a band that as soon as I heard them for the first time I knew they had what it takes to be a great band and leave their mark in music history.
If you don't like them just because they were put together by people in the music industry that's fine but it doesn't mean they aren't a great band.

At the beginning of the Monkees career they were fake but not for their entire career as a band.
According to Google, "The Monkees started as a "fake" band but evolved into a real one. Producers cast them to star in a 1960s sitcom about a struggling rock group. While they were all talented, they didn't play instruments on their first two albums and had their songs written for them. The Monkees eventually rebelled, taking full creative control over their music."
"Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork were the most accomplished musicians in The Monkees. Both had professional backgrounds in music prior to the show. Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones were hired primarily as actors, though Dolenz became a skilled drummer and both were talented lead vocalists."
Here's some other comments about The Monkees.

Since you like babymetal so much, you should really check out Sleep Token. They’re much more likely to have staying power and be seen as a generational music act.

I'll check them out but I don't need anyone to tell me what bands are great bands. I've been doing quite well determining who's a great band on my own.

I watched the video and based on that one song alone I am not impressed with the band. They are no where close to being as good as Babymetal both musically and performance wise.

Their concerts are a lot of fun. Saw them with Black Veil Brides.
Electric Callboy did their collab song with them at their concert a few weeks back. They have a huge laser screen behind their stage and were able to do essentially holograms of Babymetal during the song. Worked quite well.

You're obsessed with the metal version of Hannah Montana. Congrats.
