I hear ya...but Galveston is more of a conventional love song whereas WL just has more depth because of the narrator's detachment, obligations to his job, voyeurism (sorta) listening on the line...lyrics are incredibly sad, haunting and even ambiguous (does he even know who he is singing to??) in a way that Galveston isn't.

That's a really good one. Incredible timing and chord progression. You've got to be a great singer/musician to even attempt that song.
That's why I've never done it
The only people that could do that song justice are Ricky Van Shelton( he might be dead though) and Vince Gill. Dwight Yoakam maybe.
