I'm thinking Martin D-28,unless I like another model.

I'm partial to Rosewood over Mahogany.

Going to test drive some and see what fits.

I can't wait.

Very excited.

I bought a used Blueridge BR-163 and it is the best acoustic I have ever played, no joke.

It is styled after Martin's I believe, and I'm not sure if they make them anymore.

Congrats. Just my .02. Enjoy!

Excellent choice. You really can't go wrong with a Nazareth D-series Martin. Congrats!

I'll put up pics after I purchase it.

I've located a Guitar Center on the outskirts of Birmingham.About an hour away.

On their Website they seem to have a large inventory of Martin,Gibson,Taylor,etc..No Guild.

I've never held a Martin,so I really don't know what model I'll like.

If you have the time there's also Fretted Instruments in Homewood if you're making a day of it. They'll have a nice selection of Martins and might be a good place to start. Haven't a clue about pricing.

The Guitar Center prices a Martin D-28 at $2,699.00,so I'm willing to go up to $3K.

My older Sister wants to pull some money out of a Trust. It'll be the 1st time we've pulled a significant amount out since my Dad passed in 1989.

I don't need anything besides a great guitar.

Do yourself a favor and check local Craigslist ads and reverb.com... you may be able to find what you’re looking for locally and save $1000 easily on a used D-28.

And Guitar Center used gear. Ship it to your nearest store. Should be free or only a few bucks. Don't like it? Banged up? Smells funky? Free return.

You might eat the shipping cost, but that's it. GC just puts it back on the wall. Somebody else will buy it.

The Fret Shop in Huntsville always has a nice selection of Martins and Taylors in stock. I played an HD-28 a few weeks ago, sat it down and grabbed a Taylor 814 to compare. Vastly different sounding guitars.

Try to find a dedicated acoustic guitar shop. I don't know what you have over there, but in my area we have a shop called Gryphon that carries a lot of quality used and vintage instruments, as well as high-end brands like Collings and Santa Cruz that you might not find at Guitar Center. You might find a reasonably priced gem like this:

1981 Martin Guitar D-35 Custom $2,450.00

That's a sweet guitar.

There are a few vintage shops around Birmingham.

I'll find the one that fits and sounds right.

My guitar buying adventure may start tomorrow afternoon or Saturday morning.

Most new D-28/HD-28 are pretty consistent in sound. I would highly recommend giving elderly instruments a call for their price on D-28.

here is one...?

This is how low some can get online?

ETA pics are in the thread from another seller. 2 people selling it might be a red flag though?

I've had a Taylor 314 limited edition for about 15 years. Just bought a Guild D55 after playing the Gibson J45 and Martin D28.

You can't lose at this level. You're gonna get a great sounding guitar. Just pick the one you like the sound of. Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Guild, plus others make great guitars. Most brands have a distinctive sound. So, play and listen to them all.

Good luck and enjoy.
