Though, it does speak to the tastes of the board that Glen Frey gets a sticky and Bowie doesn't.

The Eagles do have the second best selling album of all time in certified sales and Bowie doesn't.

This is also a Southern US message board so the Eagles are going to be > Bowie here.

God bless Mr. Frey, but the Eagles are overrated imo.

I am from the WC, and I truly believe some SC alums whacked off to Eagles songs.

Sad day, but it will be sad too the day I die. Which is never going to happen. I got technology connections...

And I'll be the first to say that record sales aren't "everything" but they certainly had a broad appeal and great commercial success in the 1970s. They were an influential band - they wrote catchy songs. Their "players" (Leadon, Felder, Walsh) were as good as anyone, at least back then. Their harmonies were as good as anyone.

Tough to say overrated - overexposed, for sure. Their personal business was way, way too much out in the street, as well. But not really more than high profile bands like Fleetwood Mac or Pink Floyd.

Cameron Crowe has a nice piece about Glenn at Rolling Stone.

Includes a neat story about giving a Glenn quote to Mike Damone in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Great read. Thanks for posting. The more I've read about Glenn the past week, it appears as though it was very easy for him to come across as a 1st class A hole in public. I wonder if we'll ever know if he was like that with the band.

Smugglers Blues was my favorite song by him. RIP Glenn.

Mine too. Smugglers Blues is a great song. "They hide it up in Telluride, I mean it's here to stay".

At the time, that was Mrs. Frey in the video:

Not sure how the Eagles were overrated. In art, it has little meaning. The Eagles put out songs in the 70's that still have strong meaning to those who grew up listening to them. They were 70's Icons.

Not really. You are no Glenn Frey and won't even approach what he accomplished in his life. The Eagles are eternal. Your opinion is birdcage lining.

As for Felder, there is no question that it had to be difficult to work for egomaniacs like Henley and Frey (see David Geffen's comments about Henley in the documentary). That said, at some point you have to know your role, shut your mouth, and enjoy your paychecks (even if they are not as big as you think they should be).

You don't have to keep your head down and do what you're told when being simply being in the Eagles set you up for life anyway.

re-watched the doc last night...

am I alone in thinking that Frey may have been a bit of an a-hole, but was also right about a lot of the arguments within the band? Seems like he also did a lot of the dirty work for Henley.

Possibly. Best part was when he called Felder's manager after they reunited and said "I'm sorry you happen to represent the only a-hole in the band."

I rewatched about half yesterday before the games started and he does seem like one. I never thought about that but that's a possibility. Also, Timothy B. Schmit creeps me out for some reason. I wish Randy Meisner wouldn't have quit. Although he was looking pretty rough in that documentary.

He's a past and present member of the band. Sorry I didn't realize that didn't go completely without saying.

I'm just thinking about Frey's spot on the stage.
