Two timeless class acts, who are you picking?

Possum had the greater catalogue and it isn’t close.
Glen Campbell on guitar though.

Better singer, better songwriter, better guitar player and he showed up for most of his shows.

Glen Campbell was not a better singer than the Possum. He was a better song writer and guitar player though. If I’ve got to pick a favorite give me the possum.

Campbell here. My grandmother L-O-V-E-D Glen Campbell. Adored him (although he was the same age as her son). In fact, probably one of the first celebrities I could recognize by sight because of her album collection.
I had this thing where I wouldn't recognize/acknowledge, say, an uncle or my father if he was wearing a hat. My parents took me to see True Grit (1969) in the cinema and everything was fine until La Boeuf comes in and takes off his hat. "Yen Yamell, Yen Yamell! That's Yenn Yamell!" They had to take me out of there and try again later.
Good times...

Opinions and we can agree to disagree

The possum. He charted 134 singles on the country charts and more than any other country artist. Anyone could say that Glen Campbell had the better voice but Jones had the more iconic and recognizable voice in country music.
Glen Campbell was more versatile and sang other genres but he didn't have the success that the possum had in country.

I love old Glen Campbell stuff. I grew up watching his variety show and "Galveston" may have been the first 45 single I ever bought. But no way he was better than George Jones.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" alone puts George Jones over Glen Campbell

Glen liked coke.
George liked whiskey in his coke.
I liked them both but it seems like an uneven comparison. Compare Glen to maybe Kenny Rogers. Compare George to Merle. (I do think Merle kicks his butt).

Glen and Kenny now that is a tough comparison. I say both voices are a tie but the storytelling goes to Kenny.
George Jones and Merl Haggard is another tough comparison. I'll have to give it to Merle because he can sing, write songs and play multiple instruments. He can probably imitate George Jones.

Now compare Waylon to Merle. That one seems very difficult.

I believe Merle's versatility puts him easily in the top five country music artists of all time. Some artists are only good at one thing but he was good at many. I believe overall talent he is better than Waylon Jennings because writing and singing 36 of your own 38 hits is very hard to do.
Both are legends and are first tier country music artists.

Campbell had damn near perfect pitch.
If anyone hasnt checked out the documentary documenting his last tour during his battle with Alzheimers I'd highly recommended it. Its called I'll Be Me

Professionally speaking Glen Campbell had better voice. He did not have an iconic voice like Jones. Not even a comparison.

No doubt. Glen isn't that distinctive but you immediately know when the Possum is on.

George Jones belongs on the Mount Rushmore of country music. Grand Tour is my favorite. Step right up, come on in....
