Sweetwater is running a Recording Sale over the next two weeks. Has some nice price cuts on SSL gear. Get a new Bus Comp for $1300. That’s like half off. Cheaper than most of the used ones on Reverb.

Question for fretshack or anyone really. I’ve been looking at getting a new acoustic and I keep getting bombarded with ads for zager guitars I finally went down the rabbit hole and looked into them and people seem to love them. Do you have any experience with them? I’m real skeptical about buying something I can’t play first.

Never seen one in person but I've been told by a professional peer they are marginal at best imports that have simply been set up for lowest possible action and restrung with extra light strings. I agree - shop initially for in-person-demo guitars.

+1 to FretShack's comments.
I've only encountered one Zager in the wild and it was very average.
Their target audience is older beginners with money who want something easy to play.
A local shop can make any quality acoustic just as playable with a good setup.

Might need to look into the costs of outfitting my band with in-ear monitors. Our current wedges are trash
Posted on 11/14/22 at 9:03 pm to kingbob
In-ear has its advantages, but every band I have seen with them just sounds so sterile. Not bad, just clean and sterile.
Is that what I go see a live band for?
I will never go in-ear. Spent too much on my live sound. LOL!
ETA: Though I love my Mesa 2x15 and Avatar 4x10, my board with Tech 21 and Sushi Box pedals can match any FOH bass sound around.

Speaking of gear, I needed a new beater/spare bass. I had a parts Pbass in this capacity, but I have played it consistently for over ten years and it is just starting to fall apart. Got me a Harley Benton Enhanced bass. OMG, for $275 before shipping, this thing is a beast. Holy crap what they can do in Indonesia these days. Is it as good as my USA Fenders? Heck no. Is it as good as a Mexi Fender? Yep. Go check these folks out.

Bump for an update on the BigSix.
My only new pickup of the year is a matched pair of Coles 4038s.

I picked up a pair of QSC CP8s and an EV elx200 12SP subwoofer for a shop PA last weekend. Sounds great, sub thumps and the QSCs are very powerful for their size.
I was using 2 JBL EON column arrays which sounded good. My new setup is just way more powerful now and way more punch. I love it.

Man, I’ve totally revamped most of my gear since just a year ago. Sad. Maybe it should be the gear whore thread. LOL.
Ok, update almost a year later, a few things have remained:
- USA Geddy Lee Jazz
- USA 75 Reissue Jazz FSR Candy Apple Red with matching headstock
- Custom made by me classic 60’s Jazz (except I put a Badass bridge on) in my version of Sonic Blue
- Mesa D800 head
- Ashdown Rootmaster 500 EVOii head
- Mesa Subway 2x15 cab
- 2 Hartke HD 2x10 cabs
On the board:
- Origin Effects Bassrig 64
- Origin Effects DCX Bass
- Origin Effects Cali76 CB
- SushiboxFx Elementary (tube preamp based on a Hiwatt DR103)
- Petersen Strobostomp
- Zoom B2-Four multi-effects (my first baby step into digital gear)

I don't think I've bought anything new since black Friday. However, the gear rabbit hole is merciless. Thinking about getting an hx effects or hx stomp and being done with pedals. Also, considering upgrading my audio interface. Then, I'll be done.

Thought about the Stomp as well, but not quite ready to take the full dive yet. I would still probably keep a few analog pedals as a safety net/security blanket. I was a no way never digital guy until my guitar player got a Helix. That thing is awesome. In a live music environment, you can’t tell the difference.

What exactly are you looking for in an interface? 24 inputs is quite a lot. I would typically recommend quality over quantity as a general matter. I have an 8 input interface and rarely use all 8 simultaneously. I keep around 8 mics on hand just in case though.
The preamps in your interface will be one of the most important parts of your signal chain. Quality of A/D conversion is important too. Most recommendations I come across involve focusing funds on these two aspects.
Do you have a preferred budget?

I like that interface because it serves as a digital mixer as well as an interface and you can also use it as a stage box.
A lot of it is me being lazy and not wanting to constantly plug and unplug everything all the time. I like that it has lots of inputs and outputs so I can get creative with routing and mic-ing.
The features and versatility are amazing. The only "con" is the sample rate which maxes out at 48 kHz, which is good but not the best.
I have an 8 channel right now which has 24-bit/192 kHz, so I don't think I need to upgrade or replace that.
Ultimately, its a piece of gear that's been swirling around in my hear for a long while now. Not sure if I'll ever buy it.

I’m not too familiar with the unit but the live application aspect is a plus. Also looks like you can use an iPad as a control surface. Been wanting to find a solution where I can get an iPad to control ProTools (but not rely on it to run the software). Apple Logic Pro is coming to iPad but I think it will be subscription based, which I am not a fan of (and not really a fan of Logic in general).

I've got an old Crate 18 tube amp and a Blues Driver pedal.
Am I allowed in this thread?
Oh yeah, I've got some pretty good cables and stuff too.
