It's just hilarious that OP is trying to knight Baton fricking Rouge as some great epicenter of modern musical triumph just because of an open mic night on Wednesdays
Beats the hell out of Drake threads and WSPanic vs Phish discussion

In fairness, the Nola scene sucks pretty hard these days, too.

Not much to discuss there

You can't make fun of New Orleans
They have 1000000000 funk bands that all play the same songs and sound exactly the same
That makes them better than anyone else in the country

Please. The list of national, regional, and local acts across all genres that have performed here in 2014 is monumental.

Not hard to figure out. Who was the last decent band to come out of New Orleans? Trombone Shorty? Niche.

I happen to like the genre so it doesn't bother me. Michael Foster Project, Dumpstafunk, Rebirth, Soul Rebels, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Anders Osborne (seriously, do yourself a favor and look him up), Trombone Shorty, Galactic, Dirty Dozen, Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Kermit Ruffins, ect
Luke Starkiller was a legit rock band before they broke up. The Revivalists is a good one. Cowboy Mouth, Dash Rip Rock. Those are the ones I have off the top of my head.

I will agree on that. NOLA has lacked a "killer app" of a band for several decades now.

First, this is about "original music." Second, there really haven't been many good shows through New Orleans at all. Jazzfest was weak. Voodoo is about the weakest festival around.
You really need to go to Houston or Atlanta for really good shows now. It's been that way for several years. Sure, one comes by now and then, but it's not exactly a destination stop on most big tours.

NOLA has Peter Frampton coming soon...and uh...Steely Dan...and...Lionel Richie?...and...Rebirth has 800 shows scheduled...and uh...oh yea, TOTO motherfricker

Some people like red dirt or indie folk. To each his own.

IMO the best act out of NOLA right now is Anders Osborne.

Dude, when Phish is a headliner, you might as well call it a day.

Think beyond Phish for a second. They had bands for almost every taste in music.

Don't forget Christina Aguilera

Anders killed it at Jazzfest.
