80% or so of my music posts are about metal, but I love many different genres. I remember hearing this song with regularity on the radio some time ago. Seems like though I haven’t heard it in about 10 years. fricking hear “Gypsy” all the time, which to me absolutely pales in comparison to Sara. This is one ethereal and fricking incredible song.

Just thought I’d share that.

Only if you like shitty music. Fleetwood Mac is the ultimate honey for suburbanites. Suck it.

Love Sara and like it a lot more than Gypsy. See also the White Wing Dove tour version, complete with Jimmy Iovine's full head of hair:

That whole concert is up there with the best concert films. The piano intro to Rhiannon even made me like that song.

You’re so edgy. I wish I could be as cool as you.

How is not hearing a song on the radio in any way indicative of being underrated? Radio stations that play older music do not play ANYTHING based on how good the music is. It's all geared toward mass familiarity and keeping a gallery of tin-eared idiots engaged enough to expose them to commercials.

It's rated just about on the nose IMO. Nobody with a discerning judgment would hear "Gypsy" and "Sara" back to back and say either one "absolutely pales" in any way. That's nonsense.

Both decent songs; you happen to like one better than the other. Got it.

Please forgive me for being such a rube. Whether going by radio or not, I consider it to be extremely underrated. Maybe we can go by the fact that when Fleetwood Mac is discussed just about anywhere, most people don't consider this song. They have others that are much more popular but not nearly as good. Is that any better your highness?

Well maybe your opinion sucks. In MY opinion, Sara is far superior to Gypsy.

That's right. I like one more than the other. Thus the reason I entered the words "to me" right before "absolutely pales" in the OP. Translated, that's pretty much the same as typing "IMO". You grasping that?

It's a message board, where people discuss their opinions. Funny that someone who considers Gypsy just as good as Sara would call someone else's opinion "nonsense".

My response was a play on the use of terms like "criminally" and "absolutely pales in comparison", which are both so over the top and hysterical that yes, it is complete nonsense. No opinion there, just fact.

Try not to be such a ninny.

Well yeah. These really are just opinions. On both counts, yours and mine. All good though. I can agree to disagree.

Lyrically, Sara is a bittersweet note by Nicks to the child she and Don Henley conceived, but Nicks aborted because Henley was not ready to get married, settle down and have a family with her.

True story.

I would agree. Also, gator country hell is absolutely spot on in the Jax neck of the woods. Good shows to be seen in the area if attention is paid though!!!

The line : Drowning-in a sea of Love-where everyone would love to drown..
That's a hell of a lyric.

Yeah because who has time for melody , harmonies, songwriting, atmospherics , song structure, beauty, etc ?

Thanks to the OP for reminding me and I agree . Sara kills Gypsy.

Yes there are. The shows seem to come in waves. Kinda feast or famine. Don’t know how long you’ve been here but Freebird Live was hands down the best live venue in the city but it was sold and converted to a damn bar/restaurant. Like there weren’t already enough of those at the beach. Closed down two years ago. That sucked.

Back in middle school when I played the 45 of Sara to try to send a message to that girl Sarah that I liked her, she totally missed the significance of the moment. The song didn’t work for me.

Fleetwood Mac III (Buckingham/Nicks) is criminally overrated, and pales in comparison to Fleetwood Mac I (Peter Green, Danny Kerwan, and Jeremy Spencer) and Fleetwood Mac II (Danny Kerwan, Bob Welch, C. McVie)

I can't believe now how wildly popular FL III was in the Rumors/Tusk years. I can't even listen to their songs anymore when they come in the radio now. And yes, I bought all the albums and listened to them intently.

Sara is one of their Worst songs

FL III is high on my list of "I Can't Believe I Liked Those Guys Back In The Day Bands." Journey tops the list.
