I disagree. There's this odd love for all things Peter Green that's very similar to the cult love from Floyd fans for Syd Barrett, regardless of the fact that it was obvious Gilmour was quite a bit better. Technically speaking, Lindsey Buckingham is pretty superior to both Green and Kirwan.

Bob Welch simply shouldn't be in the discussion. He wasn't very good at anything.

To add, Jeremy Spencer was also pretty meaningless.

Agreed. I like to listen to this one while driving--it's just a cool mellow beat (although I probably like "Gypsy" more than you still do for the same reasons). For all those downplaying and trashing this song, there's been a hell of a lot worse "guilty pleasure" songs listed on this board in the past. And I consider most anything Stevie Nicks sings a pleasure without the guilt.

opinions are like assholes - everyone has one.

Fleetwood Mac suffers from what many great bands suffer from over time - being overplayed on the radio. Usually, the great ones overcome that bias by being able to gin out songs that are not only relevant but also "different". FM is still one of my favorite bands, in spite of the overplayed radio songs in the "Gypsy" era. However, to say that their "Rumors" album wasn't one of the greatest ever for any band is foolish. Also, they had great range with songs like "Hynotized"....or "Big Love"...."So Afraid"...."Landslide".....Chrystaline Knowledge of You"...."Chains"....as a group, in solo, or in great duos, they accomplished a lot. Lindsay Buckingham remains one of the greatest guitarists and performers of all time.

You can shite on them all you want, but there are 20 fans for every one of you who love their work. Let me guess......a Taylor Swift fan??

This can't be supported in any meaningful way other than Uh-huh!. One of the worst opinions I've read on this board. Rumours is probably the single greatest album ever made.

Gypsy is a great song, but Sara just has a depth about it that makes me prefer it.

A great, underplayed song on Tusk is Angel. The bass line just reels you in.

Anyone who digs Fleetwood Mac from that era should seek out the self-titled Buckingham Nicks album. The songs easily hold their own against the Fleetwood Mac tunes of that era and is a great insight to what Fleetwood Mac would become.

I'd add "I know I'm not wrong" and "Storms" as well.

The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to claim that a person is guilty of the very thing of which they accuse another. As generally understood, the person accusing (the "pot") is understood to share some quality with the target of their accusation (the "kettle"). The pot is mocking the kettle for a little soot when the pot itself is thoroughly covered in it--- eg Rumors being the best album ever is one of the worst opinions I've read on this board.

I'll explain sarcasm for my encore.......

You should listen to this CD set, then turn in your man card. Lindsey Buckingham is meh compared to Peter Green, and Jeremy Spencer is a great blues slide player and rocker.

Gilmour is not "better" than Syd Barrett was. They are just different types of players, singers, and songwriters.

I got nothing against Lindsey Buckingham; he's a fine guitarist and singer. But Peter Green is/was one of the best of all time. And despite incredible COMMERCIAL success, FM III is inferior to FMI and arguably FM II. Unless you're a girl.

I can understand that sentiment. I'm huge Stones fan and I can understand why a lot of folks think Taylor was superior to the other guitarists of the group because he technically is. His finger/fret work was unsurpassed for a long time. However, he's not as soulful as Richards was or even Wood.

To add, I saw Taylor play with the Stones about 3 years ago in Chicago and he's no longer as good as either of them.

Also, I like Peter Green. ...a lot.

I think the comment of the guy that said the mid-70s FM songs were/are played into the ground is very astute.

I just can't listen to those songs any more. They are overplayed and sound very dated.

Just a matter of taste. I prefer Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship, and Heart, too, for that matter.

So underrated and some of their best stuff isn't widely played. I mean, almost no one knows Martha, Today, Embryonic Journey, Lather, Good Shepherd and We Can Be Together. It's a shame. Every Allman Brothers fan should know Embryonic Journey.
