"Excitable Boy" by Warren Zevon is a goddam classic album

Been listening to this album all weekend. I'm an admitted Warren Zevon n00b.
So I've listened to the title track a few times but wasn't paying attention to the words. Then earlier today I'm driving around jamming to it and notice the "and he raped her and killed her" line it and lol'd super hard. Turns out its a super fricked up song, over doo-wop "ooooh-ah-oooh"s and saxophone solos. Hilarious. I love dark humor in my music.
Anyway fricking solid album, a few meh songs but mostly all pretty awesome. Reminds me of Randy Newman, probably why I like it so much.
Any Warren Zevon fans on here can recommend another album by him to check out?

I found the vinyl for $1 about 6 months ago.
Its gotten more play the last 6 months than pretty much any of my other albums.

Read his biography by his ex-wife, Crytal Zevon, the title is I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. Excellent look at a very eclectic and unique man.

I love Zevon, and Exciteable Boy is a great album with a lot of his best known hits. I also like the album "Bad Luck in Dancing School" it contains "Play it all night long" which is a great song for you since it's chalked full of dark humor

Zevon pulled zero punches in this one, he was pissed
off by Lynyrd Skynyrd's lyrics in Sweet Home Alabama:

A Southern man don't need him around anyhow
So Zevon came up with a great song to listen to before a Bama game (or any other time really):

"Sweet home Alabama"

Turn those speakers up full blast

I love me some Warren Zevon. I saw him in New Orleans (storyland, storyville somebody help me here) around 1987ish and he was freaking awesome-funny and smart as hell, just like you'd expect. He had great rapport with his audience, who were as you would expect, diehards. I remember stepping to the bar pre-show and getting quizzed by some guy twice my age to see if I was a legit Zevon fan "you are probably just here for werewolf man"....

As shown by my signature picture and quote, I am a big WZ fan.
I recommend his "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - Anthology". The only song that I miss not being on it (before his last CD, "The Wind") is Veracruz.
"The Wind" CD is a must have, also.
Enjoy getting to know a great artist and enjoy every sandwich.
