Elton John is the greatest pop artist of all time

some Elton facts for ya:
-Had a top 40 hit every year from 1970 to 1996 (!)
-6th highest selling artist of all time
-From wiki: He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No. 1 US albums, 56 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10, four No. 2 hits, and nine No. 1 hits
-He has, in my opinion, 7 of the best 50 albums made in the 70's, and "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" is probably one of the best albums ever made
Yea he eventually sold out and did some garbage, but hell, it was the 80's, that was the thing to do.
All of that huge success and his music was ACTUALLY good. He could play any fricking genre he wanted (country, classical, funk, ballads, prog-rock, shite he did some reggae even), and play it well. He had his own style musically and on stage, his concerts were fricking spectacles, and he was a boss on the piano.

I've seen him twice in concert and he played non stop for 3 hours each time. Nailed each song down to the last note too

When did I say I think Rod is better? Also it was Rod who said Elton can party. All I said was I read his biographer dipshit. Can you read?
Michael Jackson is the greatest pop artist of all time. I do appreciate Elton's versatility, but MJ is the king to me. Off the Wall and Thriller get constant play. I think being a jack-of-all-trades actually hurts Elton. Don't get me wrong, I think he is top 10 solo artists ever.
You do mean solo artist right? Because if groups count then it is The Beatles by a titanic margin.

He has some pleasant pop songs. I don't mean shmaltz like "Your Song" or "Daniel" or the stomach-turning "Candle In The Wind" (Bernie Taupin should be shot for writing those lyrics) but fluff like "Philadelphia Freedom" or "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", though the latter would be much more convincing if done by someone else.
As the Liberace of the rock era EJ was sometimes entertaining, but glitz will only take you so far in a form where soul is the greatest requirement of all.

The only way I can see you saying this is if you define Bowie as more experimental, which is definitely true. Still, he could certainly write a straightforward pop song.
