Yes, Tool albums. As far as I know they don’t have digital? But maybe they changed that in the past few years.

A CD is digital unless you were getting to that in a roundabout way.

This - I rip to FLAC quite a bit, but Play Music and even Plex will compress it to MP3 to stream, although I think the front end Plex Media Player may support FLAC natively.

But, at least I can play it lossless via VLC or what have you if I choose.

Some amps support playing lossless files as well, but I'm kind of stuck with PC and TV set ups and have to put off my audiophile stuff for a couple more years.

I have Deezer Hifi. I can cast FLAC through a Chromecast and then output to my stereo. I can also download FLAC to my computer for listening or to make CDs (which I don't do).

absolutely, especially for local bands
If I like an artist, I buy the CD, especially when I see them live.

I mostly listen to cds in the care and my car cd player barely works now. I guess I won't be able to listen to cds regularly until I get a new car, which won't be soon.

I don't see the value of putting a record on a CD while in a band. I know of several bands with hundreds of CD's in boxes in their garage because no one buys them.

Yeah I'm going the vinyl/digital download route when I print my latest

I've even looked into cassettes, I'm trying to bring them back in style

I'm not even recording with digital anymore, recently got a Tascam 464 that I'm tracking on and dumping into Logic to digitize

It's fun as hell and sounds so much better and fatter to me than 0s and 1s

A lot of venues and radio stations want the physical media to hold onto. They are a good piece of merch for selling at concerts, but

This is the danger. The problem with the pressings industry is that there often aren't options to just order in small quantities at a time, assuming you're getting quality pressings. You can order too much and never be able to sell it. If you're going low-quality and still burning your own CD's and making your own labels, you have the ability to make them as you go and not get stuck with tons of unsold merchandise.

I like having something physical to hold in my hands, but I definitely don't think bands should break the bank paying for pressings.

I am just guessing, but there is a chance the music is the problem, not the media its on.

The market says cd sales are down like 80% across the board in the last 10 years. That’s across the entire music industry.

So you can be really good and still not be moving cds.

Streaming is where most people listen to and discover new music these days. For me, I buy CDs for two reasons:
1. concert souvenir
2. to directly help the artist (mostly applies to local artists)

Most listening comes from terrestrial radio or streaming on spotify, pandora, or youtube. I do still listen to CDs in my car occasionally, but only because my car is very old and crappy and lacks an aux jack.

I cannot go to the mall and not go A-Z all the albums. Youll find returns in great condition for less than $5.

Still buy CDs just to have hard copies. Need to transfer hundreds of albums to PC

I decided that if I'm going to buy a physical medium, it would be vinyl, since it will hold value better

After spending a shite ton on new records, I look at them and wonder just how much money I wasted. I really think we're in the midst of a trend more than some epiphany declaring vinyl superior to digital. Hell, for all we know CDs could be the next "big thing" while vinyl falls by the wayside (again).

I always look at the CDs at Goodwill. Definitely have found a few gems...not valuable or anything, but CDs that would've cost $20-30 new there for $1. CDs are so cheap used right now that it's a great time to build your collection if you feel so inclined.

Yes, but mostly used. I can buy them for a couple dollars, rip a FLAC using EAC, of the ones I like, to my server and rack the CD's. I have about 1300 CD's and an equal number of albums. They have overlap of content, but each also has it's strengths. Most of the albums were purchased prior to ~1989, when I finally broke down and moved to buying CD's. From 90's to present I've purchased new music, copies of favorite albums, re-issues and various box sets. Some of the same with albums as far as re-issues, box sets and an occasional new issue.

I’m 100% Spotify for a few years. Have a tower of CDs in my office, amd boxes of them in a storage room, but haven’t played one in forever.

I used to occasionally play a CD in the car, and the sound was WAY better than streaming, but the newer car/phone equipment is getting better. The convenience makes it worth it for me.

Right now CDs are the only widespread medium to purchase lossless music. Anything you download or stream is lossy, unless you can find FLAC files to download.

I buy CDs, and load them into iTunes as Apple Lossless. Right now you can’t buy Apple Lossless files.

For vinyl listeners, the only other option is to make your own lossless files the first time you play a record.

CDs will be around for a while.

Target says it will only sell music CDs under a consignment basis. Best Buy is abandoning the humble CD and will no longer sell them in its stores starting on July 1st, 2018, reports Billboard.

CDs Are Dying Three Times as Fast as Vinyl Is Growing
