What part of being a musician is a profession does your feeble mind not comprehend?

Anyone who plays sings or writes music for a living is a musician.

I think it is necessary for an artist to create. If she doesn't write then I don't consider her an artist. If she does write then I was wrong

Yeah, I don't consider a voice an musical instrument.
So acapella is not music?

If you are saying that this isn't music, then you are invalid to all discussions regarding music.

Does she make music?

If she does, and she assuredly does, she is a musician.

Stupid question is stupid.

The Doc says,

Whitney Houston, Adele, and Celine Dion are not musicians. . .

. . .but a guy that plays the washboard, kazoo, or spoons are totally musicians.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Sarah Vaughan

Oh you didn't see?

Doc is the final authority on music terms. He didn't like the definition of musician so he changed it

The shitty local bands he tirelessly praises are most certainly musicians though.....

I know you're not a dumb guy, but geez this is stupid. I mean if you were Wynton Marsalis I could almost understand where you're coming from, although I would still disagree. But, honestly, come on . . .

Not at all. I've already stated that there is a difference between singers/vocalists and musicians. Just because you have vocal cords does not make you a musician, or you could label everyone a musician.

I don't think anyone is claiming that a musician is someone who possesses or plays a musical instrument alone (including vocals). . . It is really quite simple to understand if you can get past your stubborn way of thinking.

Just because you own a guitar, doesn't make you a musician.

A singer/vocalist is someone who has learned to play their instrument.

I think the definition that you used is very loose and isn't very accurate.

What band is shitty that I talked about?

And yes, they are musicians. They play instruments and write songs.

I can pick up a guitar right now and strum the strings.

That doesn't make me a guitarist.

A singer is someone who has learned to play an instrument, their voice, in such a manner that it makes music.

Someone that makes music is a musician. . .by definition.

Therefore, a singer is a musician, by definition.

It isn't rocket surgery.

Doc, your definition of "musician" is something that has been warped over time to refer to someone who is good at playing a physical musical instrument. This is not really accurate. What you keep referring to is an instrumentalist. Music can be made without physical instruments. It may not be the music that you like, but the definition of a word doesn't depend on your personal preferences, which you seem to imply that it does. The root of the word musician is MUSIC. You'd be foolish to argue that it means something else.

If I have a person that sings in my band and they don't write the songs, they don't play, and only sing, I don't consider them a musician.

That's my opinion.
