No, I don't agree. I was using your context.

So yes, technically Britney (and Celine and Adele) are musicians. Im OK with that. My kindergartener is also technically an "artist", btw.
Britney is a very shitty one (although an excellent sex symbol/performer of dance routines and image creation etc). I give her full credit and deny her none of her achievements.
Celine is much better (although not really my cup of tea) and Adele is way better IMO.
My original point was that the human voice can reasonably be thought of as an instrument, with all the accordant training, skill, creativity, and expressiveness of a clarinet etc. Singing well is definitely a skill, just like playing the piano or guitar. Some work years on it, some are naturals and pick it up easily. Some have better equipment than others.

If you say so.

A person who sings for a living can reasonably be considered a musician. It's my understanding IRL she has a pretty damn good voice, but like lady Gaga, just puts out shitty music.

No. I don't consider any of that pop shite to be music.

I figured it would come to this and in this case, you may have a point.

Looks like she technically fits the definition, but that doesn't mean she's in the same category as BB King.

Well it's music, but I don't consider her a musician of any type.

Link?
There are lots of examples of Gaga showing off her legit skills (when all the crappy pop production is stripped from her songs - see other thread, esp the Howard Stern appearance).
I am not aware of any vocal performance by Britney that was other than whiny and whimpering and overproduced. The closest to actual singing would be "Sometimes", but even that is very weak singing. (I really only know her hits, in fairness). I heard her sing in Kentwood when she was little (92-93 maybe) and even then it was like "awww look how cute", she carried a tune which is awesome for a small child, but thats about it.

Lady Gaga is a created persona who puts out sugary teen stuff. Stefani Germanotta is a talented musician.
Like most talented people, she will forever be known by her stage persona and the music she puts out that people purchase.

Musician yes...
She makes her money performing music therefore she is a musician.
However she is no artist.

Wouldn't she just be a singer?
There's a difference between musician and singer

No there is not. A singer creates musical notes set to time. That is music.
Was Freddie Mercury a musician or just a singer?

He was both. He played piano. Remember?

Correct. Bad example.
However I am sure britney plays an instrument of some sort as well. Very few people who make music for a living don't know how to play a musical instrument of some sort.
However even if she doesn't that doesn't change the fact that the human singing voice is indeed a musical instrument which by definition would make her a musician.
Why do you not consider the singing voice an instrument? When it has all the requirements necessary to make music?

A singer is a singer. A vocalist.
That doesn't make them a musician.
