I've really gotten into the band Dire Straits' music lately, and they are definitely a great band in my opinion. Mark Knopfler (singer/guitarist) is an incredible songwriter and his finger plucking guitar style fits the band's songs perfectly.

My favorite songs from the band thus far are "Sultans of Swing", "Money for Nothing", "Why Worry", and "When It Comes to You".

How many of you are also Dire Straits fans?

The live version of Once Upon A Time In The West from Alchemy is awesome. Two Young Lovers has a nice little swing to it. Industrial Disease and Where Are You Going are nice too.

You should listen to a live version of their song "On Every Street".

Every time I hear that one it makes me think of a buddy that checked out too soon.

This is one of the best "feel good' songs ever. And the video with sports bloopers makes it better:

"Walk of Life"

Huge fan. I can't even think of a Dire Straits song that I don't like. Got to see Knopfler at Red Rocks a couple of years ago. He is a very understated player but what he does is so smooth and rhythmic. He has a pretty unique style and I really think he's one of the best ever.

Knopfler claimed he came up with his style of lighter rock and roll because whenever he was in a bar, he always ended up shouting to be heard over the hard and heavy rock of the day that was being played over the stereo and he wanted something that could be played at a bar where people could still have conversations over the music.

He kinda achieved his goal.

I bought their first album on a whim (I get the music fever sometime) and my mind was blown. Turned a bunch of people on to it. I loaned it out and never got it back.

Walk of life was probably my favorite song growing up as a kid in the 80s.

The intro is one of the GOATs

Their last studio album has "The Planet of New Orleans" on it...great lyrics, great song, and Knopfler is just so good at what he does. Great storyteller. Creates such a perfect marriage between music and lyrics...

So I bought all the DS albums as they released throughout my life and then all Knopfler's solo work as well. man did I wear out " Making Movies" and "on every street" back in the day. It's my go-to music that I never got tired of. Sailing to Philadelphia (prairie wedding and speedway at nazerth ) is his solo best imho. Shangri La is a personal favorite as well.
