My Dad saw Elvis before he was famous

Rascal Flatts in 2000 at the Fox in Atlanta. They were warming up for Jo Dee Messina. Saw them again in 2002 at Lakewood Amphitheater warming up for Chesney the night I proposed to my wife.
And Sugarland at Lakewood in '04 IIRC. They were warming up for Alan Jackson. Jennifer Nettles can flat bring it!
And not a band but saw Miranda Lambert at that same concert in '04.

Was it Southside Johnny? Or the Kinks?
I know they briefly opened for The Kinks, but they fired Hall and Oates because they were actually upstaging them.

Dream Theater in front of about 250 people. It was right after Images and Words came out and "Pull Me Under" was just hitting the radio.

Saw Bon Jovi open for Ratt in 1985. A few months later, Slippery When Wet came out, and they exploded.
Red Clay Strays played to about 200 of us in Shreveport. A few months later, they sold out The Ryman in Nashville.

Bon Jovi was already famous by that time.

And now, back despite popular demand, we are proud to present... My finding a band early story:
When I was at LSU in 1988 I went to the Chimes to see a band called The Fleshtones (their best record was a great remake of "Ride Your Pony").
The opening act was some band I'd never heard of. I thought they were great! REM-style power pop with a strong beat. I specifically recall liking one song. After the show I kept telling people about them and wondering why they didn't have a record deal. A friend told me, "There are a bunch of REM imitators out there. Throw a stick in Athens and you hit a hundred of them."
Soon after I left LA and forgot about them.
Cut to 1995. I'm watching Letterman's intro when I hear, "And musical guest: Better than Ezra!". I nearly fell out of my chair. They'd changed their sound a bit -- classic REM had gone out of fashion - but at least they'd gotten that record deal.
The one song I really liked

Saw 38 Special open for Peter Frampton in the Assembly Ctr circa late 70s(?). They became much popular in the early 80s.

Sepultura at a club in Orange Park, Florida in August 1991.
White Zombie at that same club in January 1993.
Smashing Pumpkins at a club in Gainesville on the Siamese Dream tour. Were starting to get big, but were not huge yet.
Pearl Jam at a club in Orlando on the Ten tour spring of 1992. A couple of months later they did Lollapalooza and blew up.
I’ve already discussed on here one of the most epic concerts I’ve ever seen. In December of 1991 Soundgarden was touring as the opener for Guns N’ Roses. This was the Badmotorfinger tour. They played Tampa with GnR and then a few days later Miami. In between those two shows, they came up to Jacksonville and played The Milk bar.
Badmotorfinger tour, downtown Jacksonville, small dark basement bar. Utterly amazing.
The following summer they were on that same Lollapalooza tour as Pearl Jam and they also blew up afterward. Saw that one too.
Edited for typos

Queens of the Stone Age at Jimmys. There was some music thing happening in Nola. We just happened to be drinking and were blown away by this band. I believe it was 95 or 96. I don’t even think there was a cover to get in or it was minimal.

Sum 41 when they were like 20 years old opening for the Offspring.

Saw Chris Stapleton play the Texas Club in Baton Rouge for 20 bucks right before he really blew up. That's the best I've got.
Zach Top seems to really be taking off now and I caught him earlier this year at Louisiana Grandstand in Shreveport.
