Did you know 'Wagon Wheel' was a unfinished Bob Dylan song?

Just watched a Old Crow Medicine Show performance on YouTube. They were about to play 'Sweet Amarillo' (also a unfinished Bob Dylan song) and started talking about how 'Wagon Wheel' was mostly written by Dylan.
Makes it even worse that Rucker ruined it.

Yes, I knew that. I thought most people did.

Should have left it unfinished.

I had no idea. Makes sense since I dislike them otherwise.

Yes. Rucker covered OCMS who were covering Dylan. Now every shitty bar band in the country covers the song, too.
I loved the song like 10 years ago when some of my buddies covered it in their band. It's a "skip" on Spotify (or a bathroom break if I'm at a live show).

this has always killed me about this song. It's geographically impossible to head west from the Cumberland Gap and end up in Johnson City.

the snippet "rock me mama like a wagon wheel" was a written then discarded by dylan while writing the score for pat garret and billy the kid.
and yes, everyone knows that old crow medicine show took the snippet and fleshed out the song. the song is credited as "bob dylan/ketch secor"
and also yes, darius rucker is terrible

I'm not a huge country fan, and when Darius Rucker put out this song I heard all the uproar from country fans. So I went and listened to the original version.
Sorry, not much different. Same arrangement, very little difference in instrumentation. Good voice. Much ado about nothing IMO.
How did he ruin it? If anything, he did Karaoke.

It has no feeling. It's too clean.
Didn't know this was so widely known. It just blows my mind how many songs I listen to for a while and then all of a sudden I find out Dylan wrote it.

Song is way too stupid for Dylan to have written.

Don't let the fact that it's way overplayed cloud your judgment. It's a great song.

Maybe that's the point. They did, after all, just have a toke.

He probably never finished it because he realized how terrible it is.

It really isn't, though. There are plenty of overplayed songs that aren't terrible FWIW.
