In no particular order:

Good choice

2. Bloc Party

Good choice

3. The Editors

Not familiar

4. Mars Volta (saw omars solo project, and cedric came out and sang the whole time, and they did some new mars volta material, but i'd like to see the whole band.)

Not happening at the varsity

5. At the Drive-in (if they're still doing the reunion stuff. saw them the last time they played in nola, one of the best bands i've seen live)

Would be awesome

6. The Killers

Not happening...

7. Drive by Truckers

Have been booked plenty of times there

quote:

9. Arcade Fire

They sell out Madison square garden two nights in a row..

And you think that's realistic for an 800 person venue?

10. Les Savy Fav (would prob be a better fit for the spanish moon)

Saw them in Nola. Great band. Would love to see them again.

I just didn't even realize the Deftones were still relevant. It's literally been since maybe 2002 or so since I'd heard anyone speak of them in a current fashion. I never thought they were that big of an act back then (besides the fact that I don't like them... I don't like Tool but I recognize they are huge)

I was just listing bands i'd like to see, not necessarily at the varsity.

The Editors are great, you should check them out

Why not Drive by Truckers?
Didn't they play there a few years back with the Hold Steady?

Meh. Sorry, but a band that was sort of big ten years doesn't float my boat. But since people are listing bands, here are 11 shows I'd like to see right now, from acts that might play that size venue:

Dismemberment Plan (if they tour again)
Deer Tick
Japandroids
Titus Andronicus
Frightened Rabbit
Cloud Nothings
Backyard Tire Fire
Trampled by Turtles
Off!
Crooked Fingers
Screaming Females

Is there demand out there for those bands, to fill a venue the size of the Varsity (in BR)? Just curious...

I couldnt see more than 100 people buying tickets for Crooked Fingers, but could be way off the mark... Seems most would be better off at the Moon...

None of those bands would come close to selling out the venue...

I'm not sure. I don't study the business because, well, I don't give that much of a crap. But crooked Fingers has had music featured on HIMYM, their lead singer was in Archers of Loaf, and they are critical darlings. Any hipster worth his salt should be lining up to go see them (also, they are pretty great). In a college town, if you can't get 800 people for a Crooked Fingers show, that would be surprising to me. Isn't that their demo?

but I was trying to not think of huge bands who wouldn't play a smaller venue or older has beens who would sell out but would play a show I wouldn't care about. Which is how I view the Deftones. Sorry. Why not book the Mighty Mighty Bosstones while you're at it?

The most musically violent show you will ever witness.

Those guys shred.

I am pumped. Saw them at HoB in NO back in 96(?).

I know them, but they played the Allways lounge in NOLA a couple of years ago... I like most of the bands on your list, just dont think BR has that musical mindset passed a certain subculture...

Then you don't know what you're talking about.

Deftones are very relevant and have just released a highly anticipated album that is getting 9/10 reviews by music critics.

Since chi has been in a coma, the band refocused and has been on fire.
