I know them, but they played the Allways lounge in NOLA a couple of years ago... I like most of the bands on your list, just dont think BR has that musical mindset passed a certain subculture...
I like most of the bands on his list too, but c'mon.
Those bands are for 300 person venues, not 800.

I'd rather see the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (wouldnt go to either show)

What a miserable list. You might get 100 people.

Sorry, but a band that was sort of big ten years doesn't float my boat

It's funny, I'm pretty sure Deftones' album released this year has sold better than any of those bands' albums ever.

BR is always going to struggle to keep a calendar full of good, relevant bands at an 800 seat venue...
So, I think to keep the varsity up and running you will have to watch many crappy bands and cover bands and dance nights come through, just to catch that handful of bands a year you want to see...
Thats just the facts...

their recent album is up to #11
their 2010 album got up to 6.
I'd say they are pretty relevant.

I don't have to watch anything I don't want to...

I said watch them come through... not literally go see them

It's a business.
They have to make money. There's obviously a market for the bands they bring in.
They've set all kinds of records this year for shows.

Shinedown is a well known band
Just not well respected
They've played the varsity too as well

I know this... read back in the thread.
I made the comment that Deftones playing the varsity is no bigger than Shinedown playing... And I got blasted for it.

Actually , deftones are a much more sought after band for talent buyers.
Just look at the ticket prices on pollstar for comparison

Great. And Linkin Park's album just went diamond. Just no one will admit to buying it. Rod Stewart has the #3 album in the country right now. Wanna argue his cultural relevance right now as anything other than a shadow of his former self?
I was trying to think of smaller bands who would play a smaller venue and actually be up and coming instead of being a nostalgia trip. OK, DP is nostalgia trip, but they hadn't played a show in decade and are doing a reunion and maybe a final bow. But giving us the Deftones just shows that venues are just as out of ideas as record companies.

While I agree they are not lyrically talented, they are musically very talented.
And their remake of Simple Man is underrated.

I was hoping for someone with some real talent like Limp Bizkit
